Tamiya M1 Abrams (35124). M1/M1IP conversion

Sheridan? Going by the calibre.

Yup; Sheridan, I doubt we had “Starships” in Vietnam and the M60A2 is the only other tank that had the 152mm gun.

Yes, he was in the CAV

You could even take that one step further by leaving off the top run of track to use on other Abrams projects.

I certainly could. If I built Abrams a lot, which I don’t.
I would though, just as a time saver. I have left the top run off of resin kits that had skirts. Remember:

Gentlemen don’t look under skirts.

That’s high praise for this lot.

Oi! I’m a gentleman too… I open doors for ladies… Right out the door while yelling "Get To Steppin’ "

I believe I’ve said this before, “We are not barbarians”.

I have the Panda kit. I would be interested in receiving a list of the issues I would need to consider fixing on it. PM if you like.

List of the issues on this thread archived at the old Armorama.

The biggest issue IMO is the mantlet. The Panda M1IP has the ‘long’ turret but the ‘short’ mantlet when the mantlet should be ‘long’ - see the fix @SableLiger has made in this thread.

Another progress report on the build.

Finally got around to adding the main gun to the turret. All things considered; not a bad fit.

Still needs the MRS, but it’s looking the part now, more than ever.

Looking cool.Ive got the modelling Abrams tank book and leaning towards an M1 build.Ive got the M1 by Tamiya in my cupboard.I seem to remember the modeller used the turret of the Tamiya M1 and the hull of the Dragon m1 Panther mine clearer.Be wonderful if some real top notch m1s and imoroved kits would be done by say RFM or Meng.On the flipside for my standards then the Panda kits wold suffice. To my eyes if it looks like what it says on the tin thats good enough for me.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Now you’re getting me fired up to do my M-1. I have the panda kit, Eduard photoetch set, RFM tracks, and 3d printed 105mm.

Go for it. Mine’s still waiting on the bustle rack. After buying the Tamiya M1A2, I felt bad about gutting the kit for just the rack, so I built it as a Marine M1A1HA instead.

But got a cheap, partially built M1A1 which I WILL get the rack from, that way I can finally put this one to bed.

The only M60 variants used in Vietnam were AVLBs and M728 CEVs. Oh, and none of its users seems to have ever called the M60A2 “Starship” (reference: M60A2 In Detail, Vol. 2 by Sabot Publications).

Where did you get the printed 105mm gun, and how does it compare to the kit gun?

@MikeyBugs had them up on his site. Printed very well. Pretty close to accurate. Unfortunately looks like they are out if stock.
