Wow, just was looking at the prices of this kit on Evilbay and they are crazy! Are people really paying those prices? Wayne
Prices on Ebay are so weird, and indeed often insanely high, even for kits that are not particularly rare. And, like you, I often wonder if anybody is paying such prices. I mean, I’ve seen some older 1/32 aoshima truck kits for $1000! Like, does anyone really want to pay this price for ~200 parts of plastic made in 2003? I’d really like to understand the logic, if any, behind prices on Ebay.
No and yes.
A search for “1/35 Tamiya M106” with the “sold” and “completed” buttons checked will reveal that they are selling in the $30 + shipping to $130 + shipping range.
For an out of production model like this one, it is best to create a saved search, turn on notifications, and wait. One will eventually come along at a low price.
If you want one this very second, you will need to pay the premium price. (Sometimes luck will be on your side.)
Iv’e got one in the ODS stash. Didn’t realize they were so valuable.
About ten or so years ago I picked up this plus a Tamiya M113 kit and 3 old Lindberg rubber band tanks for 40.00 at a yard sale. Imagine my surprise and delight when I opened them and both Tamiya kits had 2 complete kits inside! Wayne
I have one!!
And I will build it!!!
Eventually…….
Another, probably cheaper and better detailed option is to use the Hobby Link conversion and a standard M113.
Also, on a side note, will the HobbyLink conversions for the Academy kits work with the Tamiya kits, as I have several of them. Wayne
I bought the handful of them hiding in my stash as a cheaper option for an M113 chassis/hull for conversions since they were cheaper than regular M113’s …
Just wait a while and better options will turn up. One is described by Gino in the post above.
Yes, the Tamiya and Academy kits are basically the same in size, shape, etc. The Dragon and AFV Club M113s are slightly different and will require some mods to the HL sets to make them fit unless they are designed for them.
Thanks Gino, I was thinking of getting the M125 and zippo ones. Wayne
I think I got lucky and my wife frond one on eBay on the cheap a while back its actually on the bench right now waiting for someone to get some motivation back to finally finish it.
If you are flexible on the scale there is one by Rubicon models
