Colombian Army M8 Greyhound with an M55 Quad Fifty Mount?

Maybe one with a TOW Missile launcher mounted.

IIRC there was an article in FineScale Modeler many, many years ago, where someone converted an M8 into a Colombian version. ISTR reading the ones with quad .50s were used to patrol the highways between the major cities in Colombia(!).

Somebody (AFVClub?) has come out with quad .50 cal ground mounts (As opposed to having to buy an M16 kit to filch from. ) Both the ww2 version and post war (Vietnam) version. I,ve pondered doing one of the tracked ones (Not sure if it was concept only or made it to prototype. ) also a “what if” M20 mortar carrier. ( Never seen reference to one but an 82 mm mortar in the open area would have been handy for a recce unit. (2X M8, 1 X M20 command vehicle, 1 X mortar/fire support. Or post war MAP local mod …Africa/ LatinAmerica.)

Yes.By the time these were developed they were pretty much useless as AA weapons, even in Latin America with less than top of the line aircraft. They did work well for anti infantry /guerrilla work.

Dymano Models has an M55 kit that gives you the choice of either a WW2 or Vietnam era Quad Mount.

Ecuador still uses them. I saw some on the back of Hummers.

During the Cenepa war in 1995 vs Peru, Ecuador would use some to create strongpoints in their defenses, being both portable & able to lay down a heavy volume of fire.

If you are interested in something from Europe, the Greek army used them until the mid-90s without any particular modification, this is a museum exhibit but the photographs are of high quality, to better give you an idea about the vehicle 1942 Light Armored Car M8, "Greyhound" - museum exhibit | 360CarMuseum.com

The Dynamo kit is the Dragon plastic and 3D printed update parts for the Vietnam version and an updated WWII version. It also comes with some nice decals. I used the Dynamo Vietnam version when I built my M54A1 “Easy Rider” guntruck.

Timothy - are you asking what to do with a spare M8 Greyhound in general, or are you focusing purely on the Mexican option?

If the former then there’s only one way to go - Bundesgrenzschutz!

IMHO of course…

Since we are on the subject…and since I have a Tamiya M8 (and M20) in the stockpile…

During the United Nations mission to the Congo circa 1960, Swedish forces captured a number of M8 armored cars and took them into service. If I recall correctly, a color picture exists of these vehicles parked together, including an M3A1 Halftrack named Olga Belle. Star Decals offers markings for these vehicles. Do any of you have that picture? (Once upon a time, there was a website dedicated to this mission, with many pictures, but I cannot find it again.)

I think you mean this site:

And I made a “possible” katanga Gndarmerie (mercenaries) version …

I also have another M8 and M20 waiting to be made in that Swedish ONU version, as well as a C119 Boxcar to be made in this version: Aircraft Photo of MM52-6002 / 26002 | Fairchild C-119G Flying Boxcar | Italy - Air Force | AirHistory.net #725299
