Tamiya Matilda Mk.III North Africa

I’m building this model for the Shunsaku Tamiya tribute campaign, I got this for Christmas last year and I’ve been excited to open it up and work on it!

I haven’t built or bought a Tamiya kit ever since 2023, it used to be the only brand I built as a beginner so going back to building a Tamiya kit has felt really nice. I’m always obsessed with microscopic fit tolerances (which honestly slows me down a LOT, I forget that I’m making a small little replica of a tank and that it not being 100% accurate isn’t that big of a deal) so having the kit always fitting perfectly is refreshing.

The kit came out in 2009, It’s 100% typical Tamiya and I think I’ll only add cast and rolled armor textures, I dont wanna complicate this with redoing welds.

Here’s the progress i’ve made so far:

I put the turret together, along with applying new cast texture to the turret, mantlet, and front plates.

(The last two pics aren’t finished with the texturing yet)

Here’s almost everything blu tacked together:

Also side note, super gluing coins (pennies in my case) inside of the lower hull or turret is a nice and easy way to add weight to your model

I’ve been having a ton of fun with the kit though, It’s very nice to work with and it’s a really cool subject to me.

Thanks for reading, I hope you all have a good day.

Good start! Tamiya almost always builds into a solid model but Tamiya with the extra love (as you’re doing here) almost always builds into an excellent model!

Thanks for clarifying ref the coins. I thought it was a novel way to give you your change from purchasing the kit!

Those pennies are out of mint now and you have an 50 yr old one in the mix. Your weight might be worth something in a few years.

So it’d be worth the wait?
