TAMIYA'S new-tool 1/35 RSO/01 surprised the modeling world when it debuted in August, 2026, at the IPMS USA National Convention. It is due for public release in the next week or so.
A good compromise between detail and simplicity as stated in the review. I would consider getting one when they are available. Although the slow speed of the RSO, which was designed to accompany infantry, should have discounted it from panzer divisions, I have discovered that 9SS had a few, even though there was no establishment for them.
I have this on order from squadron. According to their website it should ship this week. Other than the Tiger 1s and 2s I can’t remember Tamiya doing different variants with their releases. They did the Marder I on the Lorraine chassis. They could have expanded that with the French version of the tractor, the German Beobachtungs version, the 105 and 155 SP guns on the Lorraine chassis. I guess when you only release 1-2 NEW military kits a year, you have to be selective with your products. I’m happy with this one. The RSO is one of my favorite vehicles. I’ve built about 10 of the Italeri RSOs, I have a Dragon kit in the stash and a MiniArt RSO with the field kitchen. I am going to build the Tamiya kit and not let it set in the stash.
A surprising and welcome choice from Tamiya. The RSO/01 is an unusual subject, and I’m looking forward to seeing the final kit and its level of detail.
I intend to buy one. I like Tamiya kits as my hands are not as nimble as they used to be. (I am 72 years young). I have built the Dragon, and Italeri ones years ago.
