Tank Headgear

When Ukraine receives US, German, and British tanks, do they have to wear the headgear and/or uniforms particular to those those tanks, and nationalities? ie; if modelling a Ukrainian M1, could you use a modern US tank crewman?
 :canada:

Aside from the standard CVC helmets; they’ll be wearing the same uniforms they’re currently wearing.

They’ll most likely get the same on the German Leos, their helmets are very similar to ours.

As for the British tanks, their helmets are different than ours.

So…a modern Russian tank crew figure with a head/headgear particular to the tank’s nationality?

Most likely. Standard Ukrainian military tanker uniform with whatever tanker helmet they use.

I’m curious as to the compatibility of the intercom box “spaghetti cord” attachment points to those cords of various national origins. The NATO stuff may all hook up, but Soviet or post Soviet Russian cords? Although look at the Israelis. They often used a hodge podge of tank headgear until they started making their own.

I can imagine all the NATO gear will be compatible in terms of comms, using standardized connections. The Soviet/Post-Soviet gear will be a mix of whatever it’s available. they coul;d use the old Russian tanker shells, but jury-rig the headsets to be compatible in some way or another.

The AFV should come with whatever intercom system the original country is using in them. Also, in US service anyways, the CVCs are part of the vehicle BII, so they come with it.

So yes, Ukranian uniforms with CVC for NATO or whatever the original country uses for headgear.

I guess we will need to wait and see what sort of Ukrainian tank crew figures that Master Box has in store for us in 1/35… :smirk:

Mini Art already has set that came out before the war, but still very usable.

You could get the helmets from the US Army AFV Crew set from MiniArt.

Or the Bundeswehr tank crew if youre going the Leo route. On second thought; you could use the entire figure and paint the uniforms to match the Ukrainian digital camo pattern.

Along the same lines I’m curious, if country A equips their MBT’s w a smoothbore 120mm canon and country B use the same size but different manufacturer and design will the ammo be able to be swapped back and forth or is ammo, even though its both 120mm, is it non compatible between systems? Id use the example of .223 and 5.56 though the discussion there is a bit more nuanced vs what im wondering about with large caliber munitions like tank rounds.

It gets complicated. In your example, .223in and 5.56mm are essentially the same round, with the same casing. Tank ammunition can be different. In NATO, several countries use the German designed 120mm gun which uses a single piece ammunition with a semi-combustible case. The British use a two part ammunition with bagged charges and a separate primer to fire the round.

US and German ammo is compatible with each other, but not with the British ammo.
