Tanks converted to artificial reef

I wonder if the turrets were welded in. Did they fall out on the way down?

I guess no…

Turrets do fall off when the vehicle is turned over

Reminiscent of what happened to my unit’s vehicles once the US Army disbanded the 11 Hotel MOS. all our vehicles were M901A1 ITVs and M113A2 APCs; they ended up as artificial reefs up in NJ, along with Georgia NG M60A1s and M578s wreckers.

You can see the “M” icon on the side of one of the M113s; that one belonged to the 11th Engineer Bde. The big “V” insignia is the one for my unit (E Co. 2-7th Inf.). You can also see some old M-551 Sheridans, still sporting MERDC Winter Verdant camo.

They stripped the tanks of anything reusable; pressure washed and drained of any kind of fluid inside; then chucked over the side. Kinda sad. :frowning:

Yup; those are the old T-97E2 tracks, from M48 Pattons. Interesting that they actually fit the Type 69 tanks

I don’t think that they are US built tracks, even if they resemble. I suspect that it could be an early variation of those of Type 99, but I can’t be sure. I had seen them on Bangladesh Type 69, very interesting subjects.
