Team Yankee

so why is this better than tamiya cement or extra thin cement?

ABS is a different type of plastic that Extra Thin doesn’t work well on. I was just informing that Tamiya produces an ABS cement.

@Klaus-Adler David as Matthew states ABS is a different type of plastic, normal plastic cement doesn’t work as well even Tamiya extra thin. It will stick it but if being used for wargaming expect it to start falling apart with the handling. Rubicon do have a glue (not their own product) in their web shop.

And Tamiya make an excellent ABS cement of their own. I’ve got 4 bottles of it.

I’ve used Tamiya extra thin on Rubicon models and plastweld. For new players youtube is probably the best place for basic info on rules, search for the rules or period in question. A lot of forums/sites are more helpful for people who know what rules they want or have specific questions, some sites are a bit better than others for brand new players. Facebook is normally good for new players but then it’s another case of having to know what rules or period you’re looking for. You can search facebook for historical wargaming, modern wargaming, etc, those are more generic and you can get some good info on other topics that are helpful or rules and mini producers you didn’t know of. If you can play a demo of a game you’re interested in that’s probably best. Some games use mechanics that you may not like and you can find that out early (ex. I don’t like the condensed ranges of Bolt Action).

@Striker can you recommend some internet forums as i don’t do facebook.

i like the look of the Rubicon stuff particularly their Huey and it’s multiple options and configurations. i have seen that the tamiya extra thin works on their kits as well.

i like the American stuff, tge vehicles look amazing but I’m leaning to the NVA and VC, particularly their armour vehicles.

Some I’m on are
Theminiaturespage
The wargame website
Lead adventure forum

One thing with sites is that they usually have veteran players or players playing a lot of other rules. This can make finding specific stuff hard or you get alternatives, which can be good. It also will have folks who don’t like a set of rules and being the web will be happy to share that feeling. You can also check battlefront’s site they may have a forum for their family of rules. If a local store stocks the game hit up the worker if they have any games or clubs foing on.

So I’ve been thinking about maybe getting into team Yankee or flames of war over the summer. In team Yankee does the eras of tanks matter I.e would a t-55am get fried by an Abrams every time or no.

Ok you have to remember it’s points based like most wargame systems and is set in the Cold War with the 1991 Gulf war being at the end of the games time line. A troop of M1 Abrams will cost a lot more points wise than the T-55, I can’t tell you how much as I don’t have the costs for either, and remember these are M1 not M1A1 but you are looking at least double the points cost comparing 4 M1 to 5 T-55.

Example British v Russian game I played I had
Troop (4) of Chally 1 with Dorchester armour
Pair of Chieftains
Troop (4) of Strikers
Troop (4) of Spartans with infantry (my fire brigade to fill gaps which in the end weren’t needed)
Pair of Scorpions
Pair of Chieftain Marksman AAA
Pair of MLRS with FV432 FAO

The Russian player
Troop (5) of T-64
2 troops (10) of T-72
1 troop (4) of T-55
Troop (5) of BMP-1 with lots of Infantry
Pair of Mi-24 Hind
Pair of Su-25
Arty, can’t remember the type with a BMP FAO
3 troops of SAM, 2 of each type (he thought I’d use air power)

My Chally’s took out the T-72s which blocked the route for the T-55s, my Strikers firing from cover blocked and destroyed the T-64s, Marksman took down a Hind, Chieftain took out the BMPs then suppressed the infantry while the MRLS killed them. The Scorpions from cover spotted with the 432 for the MLRS plus also shot up the infantry and the Spartans ran around to wherever I thought they would be needed.
I lost a Chally to a Hind and a Striker to a T-64 but that was it, 1 Chally did get bailed out by a T-72 but the crew rallied and got back in the next turn.
My opponent had overwhelming numbers but due to a combination of my superior armour, firepower and setup plus his bad tactics and dice roles I completely destroyed him.

In the game you can get bailed out by a hit which doesn’t penetrate (enough to penetrate but you pass a armour save) also just like the real thing watch your orientation as sides and rear have thinner armour including the turret.
