My local club had a group build … anything that flies except a plane or jet. My immediate thought was the flying sub from the old 60’s TV show “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea”. I wanted to try adding lights to a model for the first time and setting the sub in water, which I have never done. I used two white lights in front, one red light in the cockpit and two orange lights for the engines. I followed a water technique I found on YouTube using aluminum foil. I set the whole scene in a box with small feet so I could have a place to put the battery and off/on switch. I learned a lot doing this build and received many positive comments.

Excellent work! That water is amazing. (I loved Voyage to the bottom of the sea - I was crushed when I finally learned that submarines don’t have full-height windows at the front!)

Great project! Your Flying Sub, lighting, and sea base all turned out awesome. I’ve got the old Aurora Flying dub kit in my stash and I’ve recently been displaying my ship builds on a similar base. Very creative idea.![]()
