The “Rocket Express”. A monorail for children that carried kids around the toy department on the 8th floor at the John Wanamaker department store in Center City, Philadelphia, Circa 1950s.
That must have been totally cool, but it looks like something for transporting kids to the hunger games arena.
Good way to babysit the kids while the adults are shopping
The fact they had the windows wired shut makes me believe that one of these kids was tossing stuff from the Windows or yeeted his little brother …
Later variant ( more aerodynamic )
More info about kiddie-sized monorails
…And less prison ship-looking…
Can’t yeet your little sister outta the window on this one …
True the older version looked like a transport to kinder prison
The kids pictured certainly look like they ARE being hauled off to prison - not very happy about it! Me, I would have be ecstatic to ride this custom monorail. (at least the first time.)
