Thinner and Thinning AK Real Colors

For base coats, I use 1-part Mr. Color Leveling Thinner to 1-part AK Real Colors at 18PSI. For camo patterns and post shading I go with 2-parts Leveling thinner to 1-part Real Color. For fine line work, you need to adjust until you have something works - increase the ratio of thinner to paint and reduce the pressure.

I tend to thin more and drop air pressure from there. But again, depending upon variables such as climate, airbrush type, etc. 50/50 and 15 psi is a good base line.

Hi Tony!
I’m right in there with Carlos. Shooting AK Real Colors from a .5mm nozzle airbrush, I thin them 1:1 with Mr. Color Leveling Thinner and shoot at 12 PSI. You’ll be amazed how well it lays down.

I love it because it is so forgiving with paint. But the application that made me fall out of my chair was spraying a thin coat of it alone on a finish that was kind of pebbly (I think people call this orange peel finish or something) and watching it level out. How does that work?

Old topic, but I finally used Real Colors today and in doing so I searched for the proper mixing ratio. Google brought me to this topic right here. Thanks guys! I used the RC High Compatible Thinner and it sprayed very well.

Can’t find a proper answer if or with what I can use (which) chipping fluid (or hair spray) with AK Real Colors. Somebody tried this allready?
On an old Armorama forum I read it didn’t worked so well as with Tamiya.
It would come of rubberish

Thanks in advance!

For best results thin with Mr Color Leveling Thinner. The AK Realcolr High Compatibility Thinner also works well. Do NOT use X20A. It will turn into goop. I have successfully chipped the Realcolor with hairspray.

Thanks, indeed I thin Real Color with Mr Color leveling thinner, as well the Tamiya. I will give it a go with hairspray :muscle:t3:

I used Tamiya acrylics with Mr. Color Leveling Thinner and i was very happy with the end results. I will shelf all my other thinners and use Mr. Color from now on.

Paint came out really smooth and uniform.
