Whatever the task, it looks like it requires some power from the jeep engine
It also calls for a cross with yellow marks on it

This may have to do with the AN/APG-30 radar gunsight fitted to the F-84E version.
Here’s a French AF jeep that looks quite similar. According to the caption it is used as a test bed for the radar gunsight of the Dassault Super Mystère B2
