(If you got that you are OLD!!!) Got a Tamiya F-84 in a package deal. Gonna be a while afore I get to it but am working on ideas. Did the F-84s ever carry 2000lbs M66 bombs in Korea? I know they were involved in some dam/bridge busting ops. Plane could lift them but would the hardpoints handle them? (all references I’ve seen list/show 500 and 1000 pounders) And I know Tiny Tims ( “Tiptoe though the tulips…”
) were used in Korea. 2 per ship? How common were they? One account I read did not sound too promising.

Another one (no location…) :

RE: Middle photo. Sacr’e Merde! That got OFF the ground!!! NAWS China Lake was working on a version for the F-84 with a blunt front end. Not sure the reason or the final result. Have to see If I can find the photo. Pic with FS-360: 2000lbs? Had seen the photo but thought it a1000 and weird camera angle.
In the video, the 2000 lbs bombs are mentioned at 4:57 but it’s hard to tell to be sure…

I get it but I’m not THAT old! As a young kid I had the '45 (my grandfather despised it) and I remember seeing Tiny Tim on Rowan & Martins “Laff - In”
Couldnt find the photo from China Lake … least the one I needed. This gives an idea. Video might give a hint on popularity. Not the greatest of shots.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHp7OZXrtC0Some updates: Frenchy, those do appear to be 2000 ponders in the video , AN-M66 with M116 fin. Also saw some AN-M66 with M130 fins. (one aircraft in the video had 2X 500 (?) pounders and 4X250(?) pounders rigged up on rocket stubs.)
Found info on8th,9th, 429th, 430th FBSs doing night interdiction bombing. One pilot (430th?) mentioned often using 1000 pounders with proximity fuses to harass road repair crews. (THAT is WAY beyond “harass”!!!) Anybody have decent pics of the M166/168(?) fuses?

Don’t want to hijack the thread, but why would the F-84 need blunt nose rockets? Is it a different warhead?
Interesting stuff. The video is fascinating watching. Didn’t realise how badly those napalm filled drop tanks leaked. I’d noticed staining in photos, just always assumed it was spills when being filled (probably some too). Definitely something I’ll try to replicate on that Korean Mustang I need to finish.
F-84 at Taegu Airbase, Korea. circa 1953-54
EDIT : judging by the chart below, the bomb above is a 1000 lbs one…

There’s a list of US-made proximity fuzes that you can check out here
https://www.bulletpicker.com/_usbfuze.html
But I haven’t found anything that would match the one in the 3D renderings you posted…There’s no “cross” pattern (seen from the front) in the listed fuzes…So maybe it’s not a proximity fuze
EDIT : just came across a AN-M30A1 100lb General Purpose Bomb fitted with a matching fuze…
Could be a AN-M103 impact fuze…

Thanks. I’d seen that list by Bulletpicker. Didnt think anything there really matched the one from Reskit but wanted a second opinion. Guess I’ll go with the M66, 2000 pounder. Now to decide … M116 tail or M130… Decisions… decisions…
Of a tangential nature… I noticed some F-84s have a “A” or “B” on the end of their buzz number … “FS-???A” instead of the normal “FS-???” … 2 aircraft with the last 3 for the s/n in the same unit? (As I understand it letters were aircraft type … FS was F-84 … Numbers were last 3 of the s/n.)
Found this
“On occasion, two planes of the same type and model would have the same last three digits in their serial numbers. When this happened, the two aircraft were distinguished by adding the suffix letter A to the buzz number of the later aircraft, preceded by a dash.”

Ah-Ha! Then “B” would be a 3d of same type / model with same last 3?
