Transporting a Marine D9R bulldozer

Further to my earlier post with regards to Marine markings for the D9R bulldozer

Obviously the dozer is transported to a suitable point for it to move under its tracks.

What vehicle combination would the marines use to transport the dozer to kick off point. I have a M911 C-HET but a google search suggests this was only used by the Army

Any help would be appreciated.

The C-HETT is also too old to transport the D9R.

You need an M1070 HET for the D9R due to weight and timeframe of its use.

Thanks, I have both in my stash so I will look and decide what one to use.

You might be able to use a LVSR bobtail and an 870 style trailer as well.

I was trying to look that up as the Marines use the LVSR and not the M1070 as I recall. Can’t imagine the Marines are always using the Army to transport the D9 where they need it. Not saying they didn’t use Army transport at times but they have to something organic to Marine Motor T to move around the base.

I never saw them using the Army in Afghanistan, but I guess it could be possible. I remember them using the LVS and LVSR and a little of their 7-ton bobtails.

The D9R is too heavy for the M870. The M870 load limit is 40-tons and a fully armored D9R weighs in at 45 tons.

your right that’s why I said 870 style I never made it over to them to ask what the trailer they were using was. I wish I would have now so i could provide the proper nomenclature.

Any more info on the M870AE1? I can’t’ find anything on it. I am curious if it is just a beefed up M870A1 (like the Trumpeter kit). It actually may not be fielded yet though, as pieces of equipment that end in an “E” are still in development and considered Experimental.

I haven’t got the foggiest idea except for those few lines of text I quoted.
Google had a few more links, one went back to the link I posted the others were dubious.

The caption for this set of photos claim that they are loading onto an M870AE1 …

Base D9r is 49-50 tons with armor package weights in at 65-70 tons

If I remember correctly, the 870A1 has a fold down front that is held in by pins. So, you unpin the folding front and drop it off the truck and it lays flat to make the ramp. the A2 has a hydraulic front that stays on the truck and is a huge pain in the ass to reconnect and not fun to use in an unsecured combat situation. And I like how it says on improved roads, we never go that message and if it fit, we rolled it kind of scary looking back at it.

Even more reason it would need to be transported by an M1070 HET.

There is a video on YouTube shot in Iraq of Marine D9’s and D7’s being loaded on to M1070 HET’s that are Army assets assisting in transport.

That’s great nothing like a little cross service cooperation
