I’ve been wanting to step outside my comfort zone a bit and push/grow my weathering skill set so I’ll be remaking my Multi Mission Effects Vehicle from a couple years ago since it was such fun as my first build on here.
The MMEV was a concept General Dynamics pitched Canada to transplant their Air Defense Anti-Tank System from the M113 onto the new LAV-III replacing 2 of the rockets with rocket pods for added anti ground capabilities. I took it a step further when I was working it up in Fusion and gave it an upgraded radar system and RWS. This time around I’ll be adding Black Dog’s LORIT upgrade for stowage and bits.
Sooo it’s been a minute
(I forgot about this thread, or started it too early).
The painting has gone well, although I made a bit of a mess sawing the casting blocks off the resin stowage baskets. The operation markings went decent on the sides, but the topside wouldn’t activate the chipping fluid with the anti-slip on so that’ll get sponge chipped green. Between the stowage and the chassis, I’ve lost track how many greens I’ve used.
As for tires, the hubs are the standard field green, but the tires themselves were base coated with Ammo by Mig Middlestone and the dry brushed with Vallejo Model Air Sea Grey (71.049), then Tire Black (71.315) and finally Ak 3rd Gen NATO Black. They will have compacted snow added into the treads and dust/mud pigments on the hubs after some light chipping.
Very nice build and the paint job looks great. I have never heard of doing tires that way and I’d say they look great! I will have to try that method.
Nice looking loaded LAV, and nice effect on those tyres, you’re doing it the other way around from most people, nice to see a different method.
I was able to circle back around to start pushing through the winter effects. AK Snow Sprinkles w/Microballons served as the snow for both the chassis and the tire treads. Ammo’s Middlestone was sprayed onto the lower half as a base for dust/dirt.
Pigments and an AK enamel dust wash have had their time on the LAV, and tires have been installed, hiding most of the pigments sadly.
Now I’m just integrating the MMEV turret’s weathering so it doesn’t look like its off of a completely different vehicle. I think I’m going to scroll through the modelling the Ukraine conflict thread for references for that.
I keep going back and forth over whether or not to add more of the AK dust enamel to the top side of the turret and the sides of the rocket pods since it feels like its on the line of “too much” as it is so I’m calling it done (for now until I get 2nd thoughts and decide to tinker with it lol).
