Type 74 for Philippine Army?

With the possibility of the Phillippine Army getting ex JGSDF Type 74 id like to know whats upgrade are currently availble for the the old Tamiya kit and is there a thermal shrouded barrell availbe like in there later kit of the winterized version also would anyone happen to know if the cast turret has a smooth casting or a ruff casting

This is the first I have heard about this.

No upgrades for the Tamiya kit that I know of but there is a Hobby Japan 1/35 kit with some newer upgraded parts. The Hobby Japan kit is expensive and very hard to find.

Thanks for the videos.

The specific Hobby Japan 1/35JGSDF Type 74 that I linked includes the rear turret expansion basket and auxiliary fuel tank.

The Type 74 cast turret has an extremely smooth finish.

Acetone?

Acetone melts styrene! I’d suggest DOT 3 brake fluid. Totally safe on Styrene.

Real acetone does attack styrene but it takes time.
Some nail polish removers containing stronger solvents are sometimes sold as “acetone”.
Those removers can contain significant percentages of ethyl acetate.
I use that type of nail polish removers as solvent to “glue” styrene, but pure ethyl acetate is better.

Start with the owen cleaner, then the DOT 3 and only if nothing else works you try real acetone (100% acetone with nothing else in it).
I suggested acetone since one Rustoleum texture paint that I found on the 'net had acetone as a major component (i.e solvent).

If you have to use acetone check it on some of the sprues first to see if it eats styrene fast or slow.
You should try the other products on sprues too …

This is all very interesting. I have the winter Type 74, plus the original Type 74 in my stash.

I might need the winter edition would tiy be willing to sell it?

I think I might want to hang on to it as again, this is all very interesting and it has me inspired. Maybe someday I will be able to get to it.

Is the Tamiya kit no longer available?
