U-99 Revell kit - L/F a part

Hi Everyone,

I realize that this request is a long shot but here goes nothing. I started working on a Revell 1/125 scale U-99 WWII German U-Boat kit and discovered that I’m missing a part #70 which is the port side railing that goes around the 20mm gun. If anyone has this kit(#H-408-3800)I’d be willing to pay for the part or the entire kit. Normally, I’d just make the kit a "Shelf Queen"but I spent 3 days on drilling and sanding out the limber holes and I don’t wait to shelve the kit yet. Thanks for your time.

Treat this as an opportunity to learn silver soldering maybe?

I’ve thought of that too jon_a_its even though I tried learning it several years ago but I’m soon turning 65 and is it possible to teach an old dog new tricks?

Definitely.

Another option:
Soft soldering.
Shape a wood plug to fit the inside of the railing (maybe starboard and port side are symmetric but I will not bet on it).
Mark the railings on the wood.
Shape copper wire (take from power cords?) to fit the lines on the wooden plug).
Drill holes on the marked lines through the wood plug and tie down all the railing parts with thinner copper wire.

I would not use bits of sprue for the dowel to twist the copper wire around. I can not guarantee that heat transfer will not cause issues. Each piece of railing needs to be tied down with at least two holes.
The railing parts should stay tied down until the last solder joint has cooled off.
Make sure that the curved railing parts follow the contours of the wooden plug without being held down. Otherwise they will misbehave afterwards …
The idea behind tying down the railing parts is to make it possible to soft solder the parts without them scattering all over the place.

The wood should not be too soft. I would use wood ice-cream sticks and build up the plug from layers of them.

Tom, you can get a spare part directly from Revell Germany if you ask them
E-Mail: service (at) revell.de (Abteilung X)
What they need is the article-no. of the kit and the part-no. which is missing. You might pay for postage.

That’s the part Frenchy! #70 is the railing that I’m missing.

Black Widow, a member of my local model club suggested that and I reached out to Revell USA but their website was down. At this point I’d be willing to purchase another entire kit just to get this part.

This incomplete kit from eBay includes the part you’re looking for…

It’s Revell Germany, not Revell USA …
Their side is not down for sure. Give it a try.

Thanks BlackWidow. I was finally able to get through but unfortunately they said that they do not have parts for that kit anymore.
