U-BOAT jumping wire

Does anyone know what diameter the jumping wires were on real U-boats?

Trying to work out roughly the closest measurement in 1/144 scale.

I have a couple of AK stuff in mega thin and super thin but looks way too thin.

I’ve ordered some galaxy model .05 mm but still not convinced it’s the right diameter.

Cheers

I don’t know what a ‘jumping wire’ is but
a one inch diameter wire in 1/144 scale would be 0.17 mm in diameter.

A jumping wire is so any anti U-boat nets and other defences don’t get snagged on the vessel.

The “jumping wires” have what looks like insulators. I always thought they were the antenna. The saw-toothed cable-cutter on the bow is for cutting anti-submarine cables, etc.

For what it’s worth, I checked some prints I downloaded but none had those dimensions. That said, the cables for the bow planes are 18mm diameter. Good luck!

The jumping wire is indeed a radio aerial, this is the U995 at Laboe (just north of Kiel in Germany)

Other large photo of the bridge area

The aerial is thinner, say about half, than the guard rail around the AA-gun positions.
Would one inch be about right for the guard rail?
Half inch or a little less for the antenna wire?
12.5 mm / 144 = 0.08 mm (thinner than an ordinary hair …)

Go for 0.1 mm to keep it visible …

Thanks Robin

Think this stuff is the closest to 0.1 just a tad thicker.
