Admittedly, my garage setup is a tad on the expensive side. If I wanted to do a pegboard style setup, I wouldn’t even use pegboard. I’d probably get a plain piece of particle board - the brown stuff. For rings, I’d use screw in eyelets. They’d need to backed with a small piece of wood. You can make hooks from coat hanger wire of whatever else you have around.
