I am aware that certain NATO armies employ the SAAB-manufactured ‘Barracuda Camouflage System’. Is this also used by the US Army, or do they have their own type?

The US Military uses a similar net, but it is not Barracuda net. It has wavy, half-circle cuts to it.

When employed in temperate zones, is this normally three-colour (green, brown and black)? … often difficult to tell from photographs.

Temperate is kind of a multi-tone green/brown as in the top pic covering the HMMWV.
There is also a desert camo one of various sand/brown shades.

Grateful for the clarification.
I was (wrongly) under the impression that there would be patches of black.
You’ve saved me from making the error when painting the camo net attached
to my Bradley.

The US nets do not have black. They have differing shades of green and brown on each side of the woodland nets, one side in darker colors and one side in lighter colors. I think that there were at least four different colors on each side.
There is a M1037 HMMWV concealed here as well as a 10k generator in a trailer. Only the antennas give the position away.

The Barracuda is a ‘Thermal’ & Radar reduction system, consisting of close-fitted ‘blankets’ (for want of a better word), as fitted to the German/Canadian Leo2A6 & UK Challenger 2, the top sheet of which looks very much like the US & Nato Camo screen, as shown in the other posts.
The UK also uses the Camo screen nets in exactly the same way as shown in the pics in this thread.
For modellers, there are several Mfrs offering this in several colours, Green, Sand, & Winter, from many vendors.
