US Costal Artillery Figures

I am trying to add a figure or two to my artillery builds to provide scale - especially with lesser-known subjects. I’m currently working on the excellent PanzerConcepts US M1890 12-mortar. This beast was last used in the defense of the Philippines in 1941.

I’d love to add an officer in US field service uniform, and an enlisted gunner or two in the denim work uniform with Daisy Mae hats.

So far, I’ve been unable to find any 1:35 (or 54mm) figures in the work uniform. In the above photo you can see crew in the denim coveralls, with and without a jacket, at least one in a one-piece overall, the field service uniform, and at least two styles of the denim jacket. Does anyone know of a source of figures in these uniforms?

If there aren’t any figures in the denim work uniform, I may have to cobble something together. I’ve found FC ModelTrends heads with the Daisy Mae hats; but haven’t been happy with my previous non-figure purchases from them.

Is anyone aware of another source of heads with the Daisy Mae hat?

I’ve taken to looking at civilian worker and farmer figures to get the coveralls. A couple of thoughts are:

Any thoughts and help in finding figures would be most appreciated.

Thanks, Rick

Great build! It’s a shame these won’t work. They come with and without life jackets. Only off by a few years…

Rick, MK35 also has some civilian figures in clothing that may work for you.

Those civilian workers should work pretty well for what you want.
FC Model Trend may be your only option for the Daisy Mae hats.
I noticed in the photo that a few men (NCOs?) are wearing campaign/DI hats. You may want to add one or two of those as well.

Thanks guys!
@18bravo I’ll do more searching for US Navy figures. Most are off in some details, and all are too “tailored”. All of the photos I’ve looked at show the Coast Artillery denims as being a very loose, baggy fit.

@SamS The MK35 crouching figure is a possibility. The overalls are too well fitting, and the pose isn’t what I had envisioned; but… The Dynamo farmer looks pretty good - add a new head and swap the pitchfork for a rammer staff. The WW2 figures I’ve found in overalls / coveralls all seem to either have bloused pant legs or pistol belts or both. I’ve not found a photo of the Coast Artillery with either.

@tankerken I’ve not tried any of the FC Model Trends figure products yet. Being an optimist, I’ll order them. I have a couple of WW1 officer figures in the campaign hat. I envisioned a standing officer in field uniform and campaign hat conferring with a couple of standing NCO’s or enlisted men in the denims with different "styling on the Daisy Maes.

Thanks again for the help!

You’re right. Those Navy figures are just too squared away. But damn they’re nice.

Nice. A 3D printing opportunity if I ever saw one. Even the engraving.

Here is from the nearly complete PanzerConcepts 12-inch Mortar. BJ did an outstanding job on this 3D printed kit.

Wow! I had no idea when I said that. I may eventually have to get one.

Unfortunately, that ship has sailed. BJ passed away unexpectedly earlier this fall. He only made a limited number of each of his excellent kits and when they were gone, they were gone. The mortar sold out in about a year. I was careful to order his kits as soon as he released them. I’ve got his 8-inch coast gun on disappearing carriage and a second copy of his excellent 6-Inch gun on 1917 field carriage. All are the only kit of that subject and are of excellent quality.

That’s a shame. He had obvious talent.
