No. A1,A2 and A3 were used at different times.
Tank 1812,
Thanks for that information. I am planning a 1/72-scale vignette, and am looking for a suitable kit (possibly one of the Dragon versions in my stash).

Long story short, it all depends upon the island/campaign for USMC Sherman variants in the PTO. By 1945 it was mostly large hatch M4A3s and M4A2s, with A3s taking over as time went on.
If you can get your hands on a copy of this, i recommend it. Some of the caption are a little iffy but there’s a lot of good period photos and some nice color profiles.
Dave’s (RIP) book is awesome for Iwo.
Ed Gilbert’s (RIP) is great for the Marine campaigns in the Pacific.
There were also some Army Armor units attached to the Marines in WWII. I was assigned to 3/68 Armor at Ft. Carson from 85-88. The 68th Armor was attached to the Marines in the Pacific. And was awarded a Marine combat ribbon. I dont know what kind of Shermans they had.
Most likely M4s, M4 Composite Hull, or M4A1s. Those were the most common variants seen and photographed being used by Army tank battalions in the PTO until the large hatch M4A3s appeared during the Philippines Campaign in 1945.
