Actually, it looks like the OD is over the NATO 3 tone scheme
All we need now is the big white star on the sides. What’s old is new again.
That’s a coincidence.
I’ve been studying this recent camo colour, based on photos in Tankograd’s book, ‘Iron Brigade’.
Evidently, this is a washable paint (referred to as ‘Bronze Green’), applied to most surfaces of the vehicle, with the underlying CART Tan retained in certain areas, as shown in the above images.
Something I did wonder … are the prominent white stars unique to particular units?
Paul
The temporary green paint is applied to sand-colored vehicles when deployed to Europe on Operation Atlantic Resolve maneuvers. The white star was also temporary for 1 platoon out of 1ID that took part in a competition for the best tank crew among NATO nations in Europe.
The full caption for the above pics:
“U.S. Soldiers, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 70th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division await the beginning of their next task during the Strong Europe Tank Challenge, June 5, 2018. U.S. Army Europe and the German Army co-host the third Strong Europe Tank Challenge at Grafenwoehr Training Area, June 3 – 8, 2018. The Strong Europe Tank Challenge is an annual training event designed to give participating nations a dynamic, productive and fun environment in which to foster military partnerships, form Soldier-level relationships, and share tactics, techniques and procedures.”
AOA Decals makes a set for them too.
Getting back on subject, the ACV has the same type of paint that has been applied to the M1A2 SEP V3. It is not an olive drab but more of a brownish color. I’ve seen the paint called CARC-L, but not much more info out there outside of it reducing the heat or IR signatures of vehicles.
Everyone’s eyes will see it differently, but the colors look closer to Medium Green (FS34102) and Olive Drab (FS 34087) to me.
That is the intent, still work in progress on the science side
