About 11 years ago, a guy in my old IPMS chapter, OC IPMS built a diorama of that incident

It doesn’t show up in my photos, but there was even LED lighting in the hanger deck and rear plume to give a very realistic fire appearance.

Very nice build! I went to High School in Chesapeake, Va, and during that time the Franklin had been moved to the breaker’s yards in South Norfolk where I sadly watch her being broken up over the course of several months. At that time I remember that there was some talk that they were planning to save the island and preserve it somewhere as a museum/memorial.

But of course that sadly never happened.
