Varnish on vegetation in diorama?

Hi,

In the next time I want to use for the first time some bushes and trees mainly from AK. They had a bit strange shine on them, did somebody used that stuff? I thought about spraying varnish on them or heavy diluted color.

I tend to paint all vegetation with a black primer and repaint it. I do my own coloring and then seal it with a matt finish. This will take the shine away.
