Looking for input on whether this kit is of interest, the subject that is. It is pricey and I don’t see it in hobby shops.
Define interest? Is it interesting to you or the rest of the group?
I can tell you that I’d be very interested in watching a build of this kit. I haven’t built a 1/350 Very Fire kit before, but their 1/700 kits are nice.
Steve
Thanks for the reply. The general question posed is whether the kit and subject is of interest, left vague to collect any reply. Judging from your response at least on this site it is only of tangential interest but the lack of response otherwise indicates it is not, the kit that is. You did express interest in a build review which is a related interest and I wish you good fortune in finding one. I bought the kit and detail up set for reasons no longer apropos, however, conversion to the USS Salem, which saw combat, should be elementary. While the Des Moines is technologically interesting I find the CAD execution of the deck structures exteriors to be too simplistic. Others may disagree. The detail up set is complex but adds fine detail. The guns and other fine parts are amazing.
My other issue is disposal. The kit box is a large non-standard size and thus very expensive to pack and ship. About a year ago I checked eBay and there were many for sale at the same time so I pulled the listing after several months of no response.
Hope this helps with context.
Paul
I would be very intereted on a few fronts
1: What do you think of Very Fire kits?
2: What is the level of detail in the kit?
3: Does it come with resin / etch parts?
4: How does it look like it would build?
I am just starting to develop an interest in ships and have the below to build
1: Merit G-5 in 1/35th
2 Revell S-Boats in 1/72nd and Griffon update sets.
3: Academy 1/350th HMS Warspite and Pontos set
4: Tamiya 1/350th Mogami and Flyhawk set
5: ICM SMS Markgraf and Sovergien update set
6:Trumpter HMS Roberts and Flyhawk set
7: Zevezda 1/350th Dieter Von Roder ( I think it’s called).
8: Dragon 1/350th Z 25 Destroyer
So hearing your thoughts etc on the Very Fire kit would be very interesting to me.
Cheers
Mike
Sometimes necromancy raises good things from the dead.
Mike welcome to the world of ships!
My revised collection after moving home a couple of months ago (still sorting it and the new hobby room out)
Top brown box above is the 1/350 Dutch De Ruyter by Pacific Crossroads, I believe a very rare item now.
@L1649 Paul my interest mainly lies with WWII and the odd WWI subject, I believe the Des Moines falls just outside WWII, a build of a Very fire kit would be great to see through.
You certainly have some lovely kirs there, can the HMS Ajax in 1939 situ be converted in the HMS Achillies? As you would know she was seconded to the RNZN navy and most of her crew were kiwi’s when they all went up against the Graf Spee?
Also I believe Paul was going to convert it into the USS Salam which I think did see service in WW2?
Cheers
Mike
Mike I’m not sure if Ajax can be converted as I don’t know of hand what the differences were between them at the time, Flyhawk do have Achilles and a HMAS Sydney planned as a kit.

Interjecting not going to build the kit. Despite the high level of detail introduced by photo etch and the wood deck - from the detail up set, I 'm not happy with the detail external to the bridge and large above deck structures but that’s just an opinion. The micro detail in brass of the radar, comm gear and baskets to catch ejected shells from the auto loading 8-inch guns are a challenge. Otherwise the plastic assembly looks good.
That is a pity, but I do understand about not building something that you don’t have interest in. Thanks for the views and pointers about how the very fire kits look.
Cheers
Mike
