None of my ancestors in 1812 were infantry nor in Upper Canada, so we weren’t in NY.
The family tale has it my great-great grandfather was a fishing schooner Captain and was commissioned by the Royal Navy to map approaches and depths into Boston. My family has the original map, however due to age are afraid to unroll it. I have not seen the map though my father has and remembers seeing Royal Navy stamps or something along those lines.
ok, I’m now in for this and i will do a MACV-SOG team as their missions are mind blowing.
I’m still in the market for Frank Greco’s book ‘Running Recon’ but I’m not prepared to pay the bat poop crazy prices for it that you see on the internet.
the first book rings a bell but i haven’t read either of them. the last book i read was about the battle at Kham Duc. Before that it was “Kontum” about MACV-SOG CCC in Kontum covering 1967.
I’m currently chiping away at “The Phantom of Ben Het”, the less famous version of Lang Vei, where the NVA used armoured vehicles to attack the camp.
i will need to consult my small library of SOG books, however for the most part i have been reading about the recon teams. the larger hatchet forces teams generally are over looked, it doesn’t help that i don’t know if he was with CCS, CCC or CCN.
I’m looking at his picture and he does look kinda familiar but i could be getting hom confused with someone else.
well berets and moustaches were an in thing for 5th group in vietnam back in the 60’ & 70’s.
nowadays SF guys are all sporting beards and Gucci sunglasses lol.
had a look for your friend in John Plaster’s book but there is no mention of him there but Plaster was with CCC and so has written about them and CCN but he has mentioned CCS but he does gocus on recon and not hatchet force. you can appreciate that these separate sections were very compartmentalised despite living on the same bases.
This is a great idea for a campaign. I already have a tribute build thread ongoing, so any of the planned builds from there would fit if you don’t mind a bit of overlap?
I’m halfway through one build and then will probably switch to an armour project, but return to this after.
I recently found one of my friends’ dad was a fighter pilot in Czech Republic at the start of the Cold War. At some point he realizes the nature of the Soviet empire and defects to Denmark. I will reveal more later.
A crazy story and she is now writing a book about her father. She knows he flew MiG-15s in Czech Republic Air Force, but unfortunately does not have any pictures of him in mig-15.
I am building a MiG-15 in Czech markings as a gift for her.
