Veterans Tribute Campaign

Group Build Title: Veterans Tribute Campaign
Group Build Leader(s): @18bravo
Group Build Description: Choose a veteran whom you knew. Build something in honor of him/her, i.e. ship, helicopter, tank, etc.
Event Details: (Remember to click “Going” if you want to join the build!)
Build what you want, in any scale you want. In progress photos OK, and a short bio of the veteran you’re honoring would be more than appropriate. No photos of your finished models until the “Unveil” next year on Veterans Day.

I could be interested in this one! Can you flesh out the plan a bit? When does it start? Are we not supposed to say anything about what we’re building or who we’re building it in honor of until next November?

This sounds like a great campaign.I have (and lost) a great many friends who are veterans.

There’s not much more I can say. I don’t like to tie people down with too many rules. It impedes the creative juices. I just think a build dedicated to a certain veteran whom you know would be fine. Again, deadline would be Veterans Day of next year. I think rather than show completed projects all throughout the year. It would be cool to just show them all on that same day. In progress photos would be fine.
Of course, a brief Bio of the veteran in question would be more than appropriate.

In that case I am in. With a Dutch IFOR YPR-765 as my younger brother served on /in one in Bosnia.

That sounds perfect!
I guess I am in as well. I normally don’t do campaigns because I am horrible with deadlines, but this one is a no-brainer. I would hope that I am able to complete a project within the next year and five weeks. I might even be able to do one of the Ranger, which my uncle served on.

This could push me to build HMS Charybdis i served on in the 80s. Its been sat in a box for 10 years. Would part started be ok?

I think the usual SOP for campaign is un started. But why should I care? If it’s honoring a veteran, who cares if it’s already been started? Plus, if it helps, you get it off the shelf…

My great uncle was a mechanic in the 67th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored in WWII. I have his discharge papers and it looks like he was there for the duration. I have pictures of him in front of a big wrecker and have been looking for a kit for years. Thunder Models has just recently announced its Ward LaFrance Model 1000 and as far as I can tell from the pictures, that’s the one. So as soon as it’s released, I’ll be grabbing one so this campaign is perfect timing for me.

Sounds like he was one of the men liberating my ancestral stomping grounds in september 1944.

My Dad’s mob (227th Bde, 15th (Scottish) Infantry Div.) were, moving from Geel in Belgium to an area just south-west of Eindhoven on 22nd Sept 1944
and ended the year holding a line along the River Maas. Dad thought a suitable Xmas present for his parents would be a pair of miniature Dutch Clogs, and being a skilled woodworker carved them himself! They are marked “A Souvenir” in cursive script on top and “Holland 1944” under the arch of the sole: I’m looking at them right now…

Cheers,

M

just a quick question, do you have to have physically met the person or can it be about someone you admired or inspired you that you have read about or seen a documentary about?

All of the above. I am not about limits. For instance, if someone were to watch the YouTube video about Roy Benavides, and decide to honor him with a vignette of his actions, that would be very cool.
