What Is The Tamiya AMX-13 Supposed To Represent?

I’m building it straight from the box except for a DEF Model barrel (which looks really good) and aftermarket tracks. It seems to be a regular French tank, but I wonder if it is a generic tank or if it was supposed to have been used in any specific way.

It was designed right after WW2 I think Tom. I’m not sure , but it was classified as a light tank that was supposed to be air transportable to support paratroopers. It had a very unique turret design that oscillated, it also had an auto loader for the main gun. It was originally equipped with a 75mm gun which was upgrade to a 90mm sometime in the 60s. It saw action in many conflicts and served into the late 80s with the French .

Interesting, but I heard that this tank was an older model with a million updates, and I wondered which particular tank the kit copied.

Yes it’s true the tank was updated numerous times throughout its service, I’m not sure which version the Tamiya kit is; there are others on this site who are much more knowledgeable about that stuff. I’m sure some of them will chime in soon. I have a book on this vehicle somewhere in my library but I have not read it yet.

You can have a look at Olivier’s review for some info
