What the postman brought today (AeroScale)

Agreed, the Merlins just don’t have the same tough look about them on this airframe!

First time I’ve seen the turreted NF version as well, good pick-up!

Cheers, D

Cheers D,
The Mk.V was an odd ball attempt to improve the night fighter but with the lower powered Merlin coupled with the drag and weight of the turret, even with the removal of two cannon and the wing guns the Mk.V just didn’t perform. Only two were built but they were set to front line squadrons for test and evaluation.

The Mk.II in FAA service is also interesting especially in the Med as they were used in all sorts of roles from convoy escort, both ship and air, to weather reconnaissance.

@Littorio- Nice scores on the two inline engined Beaus! I had no idea that those types existed. But then again, I am not read up on the type at all.

More goodies arrived in the mail yesterday…

First up, some PE sets: T-33, F-4J, & generic US aircraft mirrors; and a resin ALQ-101 ECM pod

then a couple of 1/48 early jets

the Monogram 1/48 F-80, to replace the one damaged beyond repair by my daughter’s cat a few years ago

and ESCI’s old 1/48 FJ-2/3 kit. Yes I know it has inaccuracies, but I really don’t care about them. It’s looks to be a kit that I’ll enjoy

That’s all for today…

We had our monthly club meeting yesterday at our LHS and the ordered Chipmunk found the way to its new home … :slightly_smiling_face:

… with all those huge Eduard and Hobbyboss boxes recently I’m not used to these tiny cartons …

I’m hoping to get my hands on of these soon. How’s the plastic?

Thanks Stephen, the plastic is not in typical Airfix blueish-grey but more light grey. The detailing looks very good and the moulding is crispy clean. Here are 3 quick shots under my bench lamp of wings and fuselage parts.

It looks like a nice little build with only 84 parts. Should not be too difficult to get it together. I see if I can squeeze it in my 2021 production plan somehow. The decals are made by Cartograph, which speaks for its first class quality. After some thinking yesterday evening I have decided to with the restored RN Chipmunk (3. option from top on the box). Oh, and I paid 23 Euros for the kit at my LHS.

Thanks for the shots.
That looks really nice. I like how they’ve got the metal and fabric parts of the wing right this time. I have a couple of the old 1/72 and they’re covered in rivets!
That’ll be a really nice build, I’ll be watching when you start

Hi Torsten :slightly_smiling_face:
This usually indicates the kit is not moulded in Airfix’s usual manufacturing location (India) but possibly the UK? Indicating a better quality product than normal?

Went to the hobby store for a panther Ausf D kit and some mr surfacer 1500. The store was out of the panther and I hate driving all the way to the store for one bottle of paint as it’s an hour each way. I’ve looked this kit every time I’ve gone in and out it down, so i decided to buy it. I’ve been on an accurate miniature/academy rebox binge so I thought why not

Well, you sure can’t complain about that purchase instead of the intended buy. The AM B-25s are beautiful kits!

I dug around the box a bit and it looks really nice! A little daunted by the decal for the front nose glass though.

This might be my next build!

Looks nice.
Is Revell’s current 1/48 B-25D the same kit? I know they’re currently reboxing the AM Dauntless so wondering if the Mitchell is too. Pretty sure my LHS has a couple on the shelf.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it is, I know a bunch of companies scooped up the molds. I also have academy’s dauntless which is the am one reboxed, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the revell is also doing the b-25.

Let me know if you want any info or sprue shots

Translated from a review of the revell one:

From 1977 to 1999 the B-25J and -H kits from Monogram, which are still recommended today, were the only game in town for Mitchell, then Accurate Miniatures came onto the market with its B-25B, which a little later had a -G and a - C / D followed. These were also issued by Italeri, Doyusha and Academy. Here is a re-edition of this B-25 C / D in Revell’s typical decorative but impractical bulk box with a picture of a Mitchell from the 345th Bomb Group stationed in Papua New Guinea taking off after a ground attack.

Looks like it is the AM one, also the tail marking on the revell box art is in the academy box so I’m sure they are the same

Thanks, I here a lot of good things about their range. Not sure how common they ever were in the UK, but I don’t recall ever seeing one in the wild.
I might grab one after my next payday. I don’t often work in 1/48, but I think a twin engine is a manageable size to display.

I edited my above reply, after a bit of digging I’m pretty confident the revell one is an AM reboxing

I’m building 3 of their mustangs and the fit is real good! The dauntless which is an academy rebox has very crisp detail and nicer moulding than the older ones

Cheers. Think that might be a good buy if they still have them.
I hear good things about the AM Avenger too. I think Italeri had that one not long ago.

I have the am avenger in my stash and it looks amazing! I’m keeping that one tucked away until I think my skills are up to tackling it. Its one of my favourite planes of all time

The new 2020 Revell B-25D is a rebox of the Accurate Miniatures kit. But beware that Revell has a much older 1/48 B-25B/C kit out there as well.

Thanks, with any they’ll still have it. I have noticed they’re also reboxing a lot of ICM at the moment.
