Well he was one of those “honorable” german officers who followed “orders” and is proud about his achievements and the “great fellowship” of the fighting “honorable” german soldiers. You get the picture…
@AussieReg And you soooo don’t have a ginormous soft spot for anything P-47 LOL!

Ahhhhh. Like Rudel and Skcorzeny. I read a humorous account years ago about an American or British attache in South America, Argentina or Brazil I can’t remember which, but he knew who Rudel was and that he would be in the audience, and arranged for a representative from Israel to be seated next to him. The two hit it off when talking flying but when Rudel found out the man was IDF, he got up and stalked away in a huff. Even funnier is that Skorzeny ended up working for the Mossad.
I wonder how many other stories there are out there? I read in a limited biography about Heinz Bar that when he was in Russia, the Gestapo found out one of his pilots had Jewish ancestry and came to arrest him, and Bar managed to arrange for a fake ID to be made for the man and protected him; Gunther Rall said in his autobiography that he and his wife arranged to smuggle Jewsto safety, as well.
Happy new year to you all, fellows!
I spent a few days after Christmas till New Year’s Eve in beautiful Prague (CZ) and visited the last stationary hobby shop there - Artur Model Centrum at Praha 4, where I was lucky to find the newly arrived SU-27P from IBG ![]()
And for a good price, too ![]()
An oldie but a goodie.
Finest walk around books they are!
Bought these golden oldies for some nostalgic fun.
Everything is present and correct in both, although I think the T-2’s decals have some hairline cracks. Will have to source another sheet.
I’ve also got a Matchbox Hellcat on the way, the first model I ever built!
Where did you find these for sale? They’re really old kits now. I certainly remember similar kits by Matchbox circa early 1980s and I suspect they were about a while before that, probably late 70s.
Evilbay. You have to shop around because there are some selling for silly amounts of money. I picked those up fairly reasonably after the sellers made me an offer less than the listing prices.
It’s the third Skyknight I’ve bought. Planning on doing a Korean night fighter, a Vietnam jammer and this in the white/day-glo scheme on the box. The T-2 I never bought in the day so couldn’t resist it really. Probably not as good as Wolfpack’s newer kit, which can be found for not much more than the average price of the Matchbox.
According to Scalemates, the T-2 was first released in '86 and the Skyknight in '87. So probably among the last kits they ever tooled.
And the old Hellcat arrived today! Quite excited about revisiting this one. For starters I know what colours to paint it properly!
Back in the day I painted it with whatever Humbrol enamels were in the paint box that looked right. Think I used Sea Grey and Field grey and because we didn’t have RAF Sky, I painted the underside silver.
I’ll probably use some of those decals I got included with that Eduard Hellcat last year.
Childhood… ![]()
Most of the kits I built in my youth were Matchbox. Mostly because they were cheaper, but they also seemed to fit better than the Airfix stuff. So, I’ve got a lot of fondness for them. Especially the 1/76 armour. I loved those little things!
the Border collection of 1:35 scale aircrafts is getting bigger, and also Akagi deck for this one is the way … ![]()
