Were the early post war tanks like the M41 and M47 painted in Gelboliv, or were they in U.S. olive drab? If the latter, were they ever repainted later in life? TIA.
From it’s founding in 1956 , but …..
The first one was RAL 6014 ALT (old) from 1956 untill the early 60’s until replaced by RAL 6014 NUE (new) offcourse the older colour was used for many years after the official date , not for the complete vehicles but yes on smaller equipment.
The older colour was more brownish.
HTH,
Sam.
I believe they were delivered in olive drab from US Army stocks and then repainted. I think this picture is from a training period after delivery.
The top photo has a US Army corporal in the TC hatch, and a US Army captain at the top center of the group. But all the rest look to be Bundeswehr troops.
The photo caption has this in it:
GTAG -Team (German Training Assistant Group) which I assume was tasked with instructing the Bundeswehr troops on the M47.
Excellent photos! In the top photo, it looks like the SFC has a 2nd ACR patch on his shirt left pocket.
Also interesting to see the Gebirgsjäger in the third photo. Details, details…
