When the power strip is not enough

When I was a nipper in New York I remember the plugs had identical prongs so you could plug them into a Type A either way up! It was a bit of a shock when they started making the prongs different widths so it could only go one way round…

Yes, but the amps are probably different. Higher voltage is more efficient over distance. Here we run 15 to 20 amps

Indeed. Lower amps and we can use thinner cables/wires.

I just love electric current since I studied to be an electrical engineer! One thing to notice about the mains frequency is that if it is higher, then the losses in the transformer are lower. This is one of the reasons that the “transformer-less” switching power supplies are so light and small - they convert the mains power to high frequency (kilohertz) and then they use small high frequency transformer. This is why if you use 60Hz power supply with a 50Hz supply, you can potentially overheat the transformer close to the maximum power. I’d say that doesn’t happen too often, but I think it is worth remembering, that the transformer works better with higher frequencies.

50 to 60 Hz is also the optimal frequency to induce heart fibrillation …

The BL boxes are actually quite spacious (16"L x 6.25"W x 5.25"H).

… and then, there’s the Kill Switch used for resetting the network router.
