Pisspoor zoom of a squadron emblem. Is from a series of photos of an unkn AFB in the Southwest in the 1950s Aircraft in the photos are F-86s (with a lone F-84), most seem to have Air Training Command markings. Thought the sign said 97th FS but they were in Delaware and NJ in the 50s. And never had F-86s. 87th doesnt match either. Only Thunderbirds I find are todays Thunderchickens and a Bomb Sqn in WW2.

Thanks. Suspect that is a repro. Looks like the sqn only used it in the 50s . Used this one …
… in WW2 and from 1972 to present. Found their CO at one time was a Major Bradley (?) Somebody. Anybody happen to have a list of 50s COs?

If you follow the ‘related items’ links at the bottom of the page I linked to, there are other listings for photos with the description “MEN OF USAF 97TH FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR SQUADRON WRIGHT-PATTERSON DURING EARLY 1950S IN FRONT OF F-86E/D 97th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron (1949, 1950-1957) Wright-Patterson AFB OH (1950-1955) (F-86E/D)” — note the ‘interceptor’ in the squadron name, distinguishing it from the 97th FS, and the F-86E in the photo.
Trawling through the ‘related items’ links further, the demon face appears to be from the 97th Fighter Training Squadron, the ‘Devil Cats’ — and with the 97th FS, 97th FIS, and 97th FTS, shows how confusing the USAF nomenclature can get.
Well aware. Devil Cats was used inWW2, MTO also.
