Aren’t they the same wheels floating devices for a swamp buggy / military vehicle

I do know that the design has been tested many times,
possibly also used for real.

Not quite that wide, but the MM1 ‘Teracruzer’, made by FWD Corp in the 1950s, had wide variable-pressure tires that took up most of the width of the underside of the vehicle. It was used to tow a trailer/launcher for the Mace cruise missile. Renwal made a kit of the Teracruzer and trailer/launcher with Mace missile in 1/32 scale.
