I was just settling in with AK RealColor when they started to switch everything to their 3GEN brand. Will their #712 Acrylic Thinner work with those, or do I need to get something else?

Are you refering to the AK Real Colors new bottling / rebranding? To the best of my knowledge, if yes, they are still laquers, AK 712 acrylic thinner will not be compatible.

The 3Gen i have says it’s acrylic.

New modeler here, take advice with a grain of salt! lol I use AK 3GEN Acrylics, and have good luck with using Vellejo Flow improver and water for thinning. Just because that is what I had on hand. I thought the 3GEN line was Acrylic.

I think you are conflating the two paint lines. The AK Real Colors are their lacquer based paints. As such the acrylic thinner will not work.
Ate AK 3rdGen paints is their acrylic line. The acrylic thinner will work with this.
It does get a bit trickier with the switch from AK Real Colors packaging going from glass bottles like Tamiya to a dropper style bottle somewhat similar to their acrylic line.

It does, Rick, thank you. I’ve noticed the bottle switch with Real Colors, I just also have some of their acrylics as well as the 3Gen and I wanted to be sure that the 712 thinner works with the new 3Gen paints as well as their older acrylics.
