I’m almost ready to start slinging some paint!
I’m planning to make the base color Tamiya NATO green. The floor of the bed is going to be red oxide primer (suggestions on a good brand?) then top coated with NATO green. It’s a high traffic area so it will be heavily hairspray chipped.

You can always try scratching it up yourself.

The instructions I have are a little vague about which wheels go where. I have two sets of hubs: four wheels with what I call short center hubs and four wheels with taller ones. Which ones go where??
…and yes I plan to touch-up the paint in this one.

The 4 with the deeper wheels, taller hubs, go on the rear.
You can see them here.

Thanks, Gino! I figured I had a 50-50 shot; but didn’t want to get crucified for guessing wrong! ![ ](https://forums.kitmaker.net/images/emoji/google/crazy_face.png?v=12)

Here’s where I am on theHEMTT gun truck.
One thing I did notice that cap for the fuel tank. I’m going to have to fabricate something I guess.
I’ve spotted a couple things I need to fix looking at the photos; but all in all it’s not my worst work!
I’m hoping to have it ready for a contest. ![ ](https://forums.kitmaker.net/images/emoji/google/rofl.png?v=12)

I’m about to start working on the bed of the HEMTT. I’m in need of some advice though. I’m looking to scratch-build the tie-down points along the sides.
What would be a good size wire to use? I’m planning to go on a Hobby Lobby / HobbyTown run later today so I can pick something up.

I would use 0.015 fuse wire or solder. It works great.

Solder! Why didn’t I think of that?!
It looks like I even have a roll of .022 solder on-hand. I doubt .007" will be a noticeable difference!
Thanks Gino!

0.022 solder should work perfectly.

I got the cab mounted and even scratch built a stowage rack and put in a couple cases of MREs and some cases of water. That hasn’t been permanently mounted yet. I’m still debating whether or not to make some straps.
Next I’m gonna mask off the bed and give it a coat of Tamiya Hull Red (with maybe a drop or two of flat white added) and seal it. I’m going to heavily chip the bed once I put the NATO Green down.
More to come this week, assuming the weather cooperates! ![:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:](https://forums.kitmaker.net/images/emoji/google/stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye.png?v=12)

Well, I sprayed the bed with Tamiya XF-9 Hull Red; but it looks awfully dark to me! I wanted to simulate red oxide primer; but this looks more like dark brown.
I think I might reshoot it adding a couple drops of Tamiya Flat White. ![ ](https://forums.kitmaker.net/images/emoji/google/thinking.png?v=12)

Yeah, it looks dark brown on my screen as well. Did you paint it over primer of some sort? I have had color hue change when primer or base color is dark. Well, it modeling…1 step forward and 2, 4, or 6 steps back but keep on truckin.

Nope…no primer. Normally, I’m a Duplicolor or Rustoleum in rattle cans kinda guy; but for some reason I chose not to do it on this one. My plan (for the bed anyway) is to put down a coat of Tamiya Hull Red for the red oxide look, seal it with a light enamel clear coat, then put down a layer of hair spray followed by Tamiya NATO Green before scratching the heck out of it! ![ ](https://forums.kitmaker.net/images/emoji/google/grin.png?v=12)
The plastic itself is light gray.

I reshot the Hull Red adding a few drops (8-10) of Tamiya Flat White. It lightened up the red enough for my liking! ![ ](https://forums.kitmaker.net/images/emoji/google/crazy_face.png?v=12)

Well, glad you was able to fix it enough to your liking. It’s weird how paints respond at time. Keep it coming!

Pigments solved the problem, but this time the base was better after painting. I had fun with Humvee and HARDOX. I was satisfied - unfortunately the photos are from a forum that no longer exists, so with this “damage”
