WIP Italeri M985 HEMTT Gun Truck

The guns and bolt-on armor have been added.

I didn’t like the way the shield looked on the Mark 19 on the rear of the cargo bed so I took it off.

Here’s a head-on shot…(autocorrect almost made that last statement embarrassing! ). :flushed:

I’m gonna add some stowage (ammo cans, water cans, etc.) then I’ll start working on the crane.

Looks great. The rusty panels look good. It’s coming along nicely.

I’ve got the hydraulic lines run for the crane! I used 0.022” solder. There was only a moderate amount of profanity used.

This is the first time I’ve ever gone into that much detail. It’s hardly perfect but it doesn’t look too hideous!

I have a little bit more to do then it will be time to sniff some more Tamiya XF-67! :sunglasses:

I’ve got the base color, NATO Green, applied to the crane pieces and I’m thinking about leaving it green and not putting the sand color over the top, kinda like the crane was added later or replaced. I’m just worried that I might do more damage to the hydraulic lines trying to hairspray chip the top coat.

Would that be a realistic look or should I just bite the bullet and shoot the tan on it?

Everything looks great so far. Why booger it up with a technique (chipping on CARC) that doesn’t even work well with modern US vehicles?

It is very common to find tan vehicles with green parts that have been replaced.

Not saying it’s not incorrect, but anyone with an oxy-acetylene rig can customize a gun shield.

I thought about adding a shield on the rear of the mount based on a couple pics I found; but after a while I thought better of it.

That’s true, but Italeri made the same mistake as Academy with their M998. If someone cuts the board with a torch, it’s ok, but the standard one has the wrong shape.

It’s looking great.

I’ve held off to near the end to put the mirrors on because I can be like a bull in a china shop sometimes! I was putting foil inside the mirrors last night and it got me to thinking. Has anyone tried those UV resin kits you can get off Amazon to make the glass for mirrors or light lenses?

The small bottles that come with the kit ought to last a lifetime!

I’m gonna put this on a base looking like highway; but other than that I’m calling this one done!

I’m OK with honest criticism unless somebody is just trying to be a butt-head. If there’s something I can fix, I’m willing. If not I’ll note it for the next one!

I’ve got a newer one with the MLRS six-packs in the bed waiting in the stash but it will probably be a while before I do it.
