When where you at the show on Saturday? I was there till about 10:30, but I had other stuff to do so I couldn’t stick around long.
Yeah, that was just a couple years back. Bought a used 65 mustang for $500 because it was in good shape.
Wish I would have known some of you were at MosquitoCon we could have gotten together. Anyway, I was the guy whose last name was butchered. I also won the best Vietnam subject. Maybe you remember. I did see Sean and his son.
I’ve noticed inflation starting to bite from tariffs. RFM kits at SprueBros for example used to average $50 now they are up around $60, they popped 20% about 3 weeks ago
In 1979 I bought my first car - a '71 Cougar XR7, for $400. You can’t touch that car for lass than 20K today.
Funny thing, on my way up to NMU in the fall of '80, I remember paying 1.29⁹ for a gallon of gas. Until recently I wasn’t even paying =twice that. In fact not too long ago in Colorado I think I paid 1.95⁹ at Buckee’s. That pretty amazing when you think about it. Even today’s prices aren’t nearly as bad as they were a few years ago,
Sorry we missed you, we pulled in just after 11.
I haven’t had much sticker shock. Bought a Tamiya M36 at the LHS a week ago for $39.99. She also had their Korea E8 Sherman for $45.00. Pretty good for a storefront. Can’t beat that on the internet, really. I asked if she had seen her costs rising and she said no.
I buy quite a bit direct from China (via ebay) and the prices are pretty much what they’ve always been. Under $70 for an RFM interior Sherman. I paid $70 for their interior Abrams YEARS ago.
Some of these are a few years old (not the M36 though) which may have something to do with it. There have been a few exceptions. AFV Club Cent Mk I, I did not find a cheap source. It was about $80. Overall though, I’m pretty happy with costs.

No. I had four. The fourth one blew up driving from Louisiana to Michigan when I joined the Army. It was set up for the quarter mile - not the highway.
You can see III and IV in this photo. The yellow one is the one that went Tango Uniform. I’m pretty sure at some point there will be a V.
Feel for ya man. There are upsides to California but cost of living is absurd.
That was my plan, I bought a bunch of kits in previous years (and got some estate sales) knowing I wouldn’t be spending money later in life. They’re not as nice kits but they still build good enough for me. I do tend to get paints and tools at any shows I go to.
Welcome to the forum, John. Any fan of the Mk I Cent is certainly welcome!
The Mk1 Cent is so expensive because of the Licence Deals with girls and tanks…. So there is no cheap new one in the market….

I am paying $5.16 for gas. This week.
I feel for you. $3.49^9 today.
I pay 7.95 USD for a gallon in Hungary. Actually we buy on a liter, our country has no rich oil fields but import and also 27% tax on sales. World top class, I believe.
I just bought a H&S Infinity Geraldez Airbrush. The std price would be 221 EUR if bought with no tax. The H&S website added the 27% on the sales price automatically, resulting some 270 EUR. Finally bought it directly from Spain for 221 EUR. Did not complain.
It’s three things:
- Everything is more expensive these days;
- It’s an adult hobby now. Adults have money. Kids don’t.
- Whining about not enough detail in kits or about simplified details has consequences!

Consumer prices in the EU must be advertised including VAT, so that remark isn’t overly useful to anyone except those buying this airbrush for business purposes or ordering it from a country outside the EU.
What has me wondering, though, is why a Spanish site would (apparently) sell things to someone in another EU country without charging VAT.
Buying built kits on ebay and cleaning them up, detailing and repainting can be a good cheapskate option.£50/£70 kit for £20.

There are a couple things at play now. #1 the Tarriffs imposed raised the prices about $10.00 or more. Then #2 is the war someone put us in. I could be wrong but plastic models are derrived from crude oil. Then again I may be all wet?
