When I left Virginia Beach in 2017 the modelling club which met at the museum was working on a 1/72 scale diorama of the Goxhill airfield which would be featured on the second floor of the museum. More of an AFV guy than an airplane guy myself, I did many of the support vehicles. Here’s a few I finished up before I left:
@jmarc wow this is really exciting. What scale is it? Did you say and I missed it? That chair is awesome. I don’t know why I keep going back to look at it with all the other things you build, but I really like it.
@Namabiiru mark, extraordinary masking and painting you did there. Wow. I’m going to be busy in that museum sometime this summer. I’ll look for the diorama.
Thank you for the kind words. Judging by the state of their FB page, it doesn’t appear the dio has progressed much since I left, nor is the tower up to the level of Marc’s by a long way.
Just for interest, these are shots of the original Control Tower from the first site of RAF St Mawgan built by the Americans in WW2. It was actually a huge field called Trebelzue (pronounced Treblezoo) and that part of the airfield was later repurposed into the ammo storage area.
When it was functional, it would of had a wooden command structure on top with 360 vision…
