Well, it looks like there are two of them on the way. The bottom pic is the old Panda box art, the top one is new: [ZIMI] NEW: 1/35 M109A7 Self-Propelled Artillery _ Static Model Lovers - Committed to creating the most complete model evaluation website (moxingfans.com)

And 18bravo says it’s not just a re-pop Rfm m109a7 - #11 by 18bravo

So I’ll wait until I see plastic.

Moxingfans’ Chinese text is Google translated as this:
“ZIMI Model has released two new product covers, both with the M109A7 as the theme, but there are slight differences in details. The first cover is new, and the second cover is still the old Panda cover. The specific configuration and details are not known yet, and the launch time has not yet been announced, but it should be certain to be launched.”

So it appears that Zimi is planning to release a re-issue of the not so accurate Panda molding and another one that may be improved? Whether it is a completely new tooling or just a slight variant of Panda kit is still waiting on the jury.
At the same time, my money is on RFM based on its reputation so far.

Let’s assume there is another version that may be improved.
Why in the world would they spend time and money producing two kits?

Don’t shoot the messenger. That’s what Moxingfans wrote on its website. You’re implying you know a different story the rest of us don’t know of. That’s hopeful.
At the same time, I am jaded enough to see these manufacturers release products that are non-sensical and making no financial sense at all. So I always lower the expectations. 2 piles of some crap or 1 pile of crap or 1 gem hidden in crap? We shall see.

I make no such public pronouncements. However, perhaps we should heed the Gino, as he has made his pronouncement:

He would seem to be a position to know. He did do the review of the original Panda kit and seems to have had an in with Kitty Hawk, of whom he was a fan. Perhaps he has a source to which we are not privy…

Not at all. I had no inside contact w/Kitty Hawk either. I am basing it on the prior Kitty Hawk and Panda kits that have been released by Zimi Model without any upgrades or any other changes. So far they have all been reboxed/rebranded as Zimi kits with the same plastic inside. If this one is updated, great. I’ll wait to see the plastic to decide for sure.

Interesting. It says they’ve updated the group cover photo.

Just wondering if there are any NATOflage M109A7. I only saw then in plain forest green or tan.

From Zimi’s website:

Looks intriguing.

Looks intriguinger,

I’m keen on that XM1299, even if it was canceled

Interesting. They look to be the same plastic as the Panda Hobby M109A7 kit with added metal barrel on the M0109A7. The XM1299 looks to have a metal barrel and 3D printed muzzle brake, along with new parts for the gun mount and a larger recuperator bottle cover on top of the turret. They look to have plastic, or vinyl tracks too as opposed to the indi-link metal ones in the original Panda Hobby kit.

I have noted on the RFM kit that their hull was still incorrect. They may be the ones who just repopped that kit. There are at least two areas on this (Zimi) M109A7 that have definitely been corrected, as seen in the image.
How do we ascertain vinyl tracks from a computer image?

I’m guessing, the barrel is metal and the tracks are a different medium in the image…

Yeah, I doubt they’re vinyl. Especially if they inherited Panda’s metal track, which was actually one of the things they managed to get right.

The ones I just saw all green now. My previous post showed them in NATOflage. Not to say they’e not still doing them in NATOflage, but the AMPVs, the M109A7, the M992A3 - all the latest I’ve seen are solid green now.
