This will be slightly modified to vend mostly punk zines but also skate zines. I plan to add LED lighting inside so I spray painted the inside flat black to block out the light when finished.
They really had adult magazine vending machines?!
In the US we thought we were sneaky buying just a pack of cigarettes from the vending machines back in the 70’s.
I would have been in kid heaven if we had those here.
Haha, right??
I guess they were set up where only adults were allowed to be?
Funny you mention those cigarette machines because that is the look I’m going for with my model.
I remember them in the back hallway to the bathroom at the bowling alley.
Those old cigarette machines had a wood grain veneer with a shiny metallic sometimes chrome trim. I want to replicate that look on my model as well.
Wood grain painted with acrylics for rapid dry time. This was over sprayed with an acrylic lacquer flat coat for more protection from masking. A No.3 brush with the hairs pulled out was used as a cutting tool for the round holes around the barrel lock key holes. Perfect size. No other radius’ so I didn’t need to cut vinyl tapes around details and risk paint lifting.
Some old can of Dutch Boy chrome spray paint was used for the metallic trim. Chrome spray paints, with exception to Revell, usually look like bright aluminum when dry anyway so the look was satisfactory.
Yeah, I saw that stuff. They also have beer machines. ¥300 for 12 oz., ¥400 for 16 oz. I was told kids know to stay away. I would hit the Suntory, Asahi and Sapporo machines. It is a very different culture in Japan.
I would occasionally see men openly looking at skin mags on the subway, even with women sitting next to them, who never seemed to notice.
One night in Tokyo, we were going to an Indian restaurant and parked in a very large lot. Along the back of the lot was a building or buildings that must’ve stretched 100 meters. Every inch of that wall was occupied by a vending machine.
Funniest vending machines were the Calpis machines…
