Love that Weasel
Love that Weasel
NICE!!! We’ve needed one of these for a long time.
Woo-Hoo! I don’t believe it! Praise the Lord! This has been in the top ten want list items for decades and still been a black hole that manufacturers skirted around year after year. Finally! Takom should get a medal for this!
Yes, the amphibious version was the M29C. It has the rounded bow and rudders on the stern. The Monogram kit is an M29C.
Dont know what all the fuss is about.
Just get one of these and put tracks on it ?
Amphibious M29 Weasels of 4th Special Service Brigade were used by British commando troops in the Walcheren operation, supplementing LVT Buffalos. The 79th Armoured Division used also non-amphibious variant of the Weasel, modified for clearing anti-personnel devices. The Lovat Scouts used the amphibious Weasel during their time in Jasper, Alberta, where they were being trained in advanced winter and mountain warfare tactics, having already carried out the basic winter and mountain combat training in the Scottish Highlands and North Wales.
Non-amphibious Weasels were also used by British Infantry Divisions fighting in the Saar-Moselle Triangle, as they were often the only means of getting supplies forward.
After the war they were kept in service for a few years.
1 replyI know the French used the M29C in Indochina, but not sure if they had any of the other ones. Wayne
Or build it for the upcoming Great Ones tribute campaign! The Great Ones - Campaigns & Group Builds / Staging Area - KitMaker Network
I’d even take it off your hands to build for that one, if the price is right…
The Weasel is the most overlooked American vehicle during the invasion of France and afterward, not as large as a Universal Carrier but vital to bringing supplies and evacuating the wounded where there was a water obstacle or deep mud to contend with. In books about that period and place, as well as YouTube videos taken by Signal Corps photographers, the Weasel is seen in abundance.
But dang, I have two LM resin kits in line to be built. Ill go for a couple of the Takoms.
Kudos to them for finally producing a Weasel. Much better then another couple of Hetzer releases.
I’ll get 'em both. I nearly bought the resin one a few months back.
It’s about time!!! Takom - do it in 1/16 as well!!!
The basic M29 weasel was the Snow Cat of its day. When the First Special Service Force was originally conceived, they were to be equipped with these vehicles and inserted into Norway for mobile guerrilla warfare.
That is one kit that will be high on my list of “to get”. Bravo Takom!!!
(funny how an armor modeling company has a similar name to US Army Tank and Automotive Command, TACOM)
We need a new Ontos !
My track record (no pun intended) re campaigns isn’t, sadly, very good; I get far too distracted and go off on tangents, which all eats into the time allotted for the campaign project. My Fog of War input, and epic fail, is a case in point (although I’m beavering away on it now).
1 replyI’m aware of the inclusion in Walcheren et al, I’m just sure I’ve seen mention of them in an armoured regiment. It was probably in a biography or similar such as “Flesh Wounds”, “Warriors for the Working Day” or perhaps Stuart Hills’ “By Tank into Normandy”; I’ll have to do some reading!
There is only a handful who are always successful or so it seems with completing campaigns. I am not in that category, I have more goose eggs then successes but it’s still fun to try. There is usually a generic shelf queen campaign that it can roll into if not completed in time.
This is one that wont be sitting on the shelves for long, neither the suppliers or mine. So many ideas for dioramas don’t know where to begin .
Hope it’s not long in coming out as stock .
I shall look forward to hearing other people’s ideas on this one .
I was thinking the same thing…
I have the older Takom’s version and I bought RCWS and the jammer as resin upgrades. Good to see Takom decided to upgrade their kit and include those in the plastic form.
Mario
The M29 kit is the first in 1/35th,
the Typhoon is the third (Takom 2082 and Zvezda 3701).
Maybe there will be less excitement when the third M29 gets announced.
The Typhoon is just the warm up band for the Weasel…
Thanks for all the idea’s , I think a close look into some of the invasion plans maybe a place to go . Also the photo achieves would help.
Again thank you.
Well, at least now I don’t have to worry anymore about getting the old Monogram M29C, and then converting it to a basic M29.
Gotta get the Weasel. I always thought they were neat looking vehicles.
I have the ADV-Azimut resin kit somewhere, but It is missing some parts if I remember correctly…
I believe the French ones in Indochina were all M29C Amphibious versions. The new Takom kit is the original land version, a straight M29.
Sorry… Is there something there? Can’t see anything bar the dust on top of something…
But Ryan what will we build in the mean time?
Build Might need to add to the stash to replace the only Monogram kit just case Takom doesn’t release one. Just saying.
Devil!
Ya know, that stuck keyboard will really get ya sometimes. It really sucks when the enter key gets stuck too and just orders everything for you.
Robin, given my abysmal build rate and my propensity to shear off at endless tangents, I suspect most of the modellers who frequent the site will be dead by the time that happens - not that I’ll be remotely immortal (!)
I don’t have the Takom kit yet but been seeing some builds, ouch. The fact I finished the Monogram kit does indeed mean it is easier than the Takom kit. Now if someone makes a 3D track, I can probably finish the second Monogram kit. I painted them like 15 yrs ago and I am sure they are still sticky.
Tom, make it fifteen and we’ve a deal; wait a minute. Sod it, buy me a pint at a model show somewhere (somehow) and it’s yours!
Roger that; I’m at Abingdon this coming Saturday, and thereafter Yeovil on Sun 22 Oct. However, I feel they’re dry venues though I’m sure we can sort something out. A shame that On Track no longer happens.
Anyway, thereafter (the above dates) we’ll have to think about the New Year!
Dry venues? Heaven forefend! I’m in no hurry given the size of my stash, so New Year is fine by me. I’d say the Tank Museum in Feb is the next likely meet-up. I really miss the OnTrack show!
Very prophetic of you.
