And i can’t find pictures of these…
Just a quick bit of technical advice from a former TOW gunner.
Yellow stripe on the forward portion of the missile container to indicate a live warhead, brown stripe on the rear portion to indicate a live rocket motor.
Missiles should be stowed warhead forward in the missile rack for rapid reloading of the launcher. Rocket end always to the rear on a fore & aft rack. No alternate loading of missiles in the rack. The basic round weighed 54lbs and trying to flip that on alternate stowing would not be a good idea. Not sure what the later missiles such as TOW II or beyond weighed. I only got to play with basic TOW and ITOW missiles during live fires.
Here is a good picture of a live round being loaded into the ground mount tripod launcher
The two points on the top are where the Missile Guidance Set electronics connect to the missile in the encapsulated tube. Also note the indexing lugs on the front of the round that slide into the slots on the launch tube for proper alignment and electrical connection points in the bridge clamp assembly (the big black lever visible between the loaders shoulder and the sight.
Thanks for the info! That would make sense why the missiles would be showed that way… i wouldn’t want to flip anything with an explosive warhead either!
Why would the instructions be showing this?
The stripes are really not going to matter once the missile is taken from its shipping case and placed into the vehicle’s missile rack. Those come from the factory in standard locations.
It appears that the M1167 has the missile rack installed for side to side carriage, not front and rear. And I did find a photo of the load plan placard inside the M1167, and it is specified that the missiles are to be stowed in an alternating manner. I’d hate to be that loader because such a configuration involves some weight gymnastics flipping the missiles with the warhead pointed to the vehicle right side. As you can see, the bottom three missiles are also stowed on their sides, likely due to that box at the top of the nose end and clearance with the overhead rack.
I think i messed up!
Here is the finished missile rack! Based on some references i think i messed up unfortunately it’s too late now… let me know what you think!
TOW tube rack looks solid.
It should be 383 CARC Green.
VMC is after my time, so I’ll say NATO/CARC Green.
Great job I really like the interior.
Cheers,
Ralph
Looking good so far.
Thank you all for the comments! I finally have in interior 100% done
Let me know if I’m missing something
The interior looks excellent! Now just some personal touch items from the crew and you’ll be all set.
Like magazines, an M4 carbine lying on the deck. You already have the water bottles, maybe an MRE pouch.
That looks damn fine! Really great work. Yeah, maybe a couple of MRE pouches and some well dog-eared magazines would really round it out and make it look lived in.
Those are some awesome ideas! I never thought about adding clips/ magazines or any kind of personal items… the mre pouches, do i have to scratch build them? And where can i find 1/35 clips other than ebay?
I have a bunch of pre-printed spare 5.56 magazines I can ship to you. Along with a few spare carbines.
