I’ve been silently watching your build on this Young Gun and I’m a little intimidated knowing I’ve got one in the lineup waiting to get built up and just hoping it turns out this good. You’ve got a natural talent for this hobby and it wouldn’t be a surprise to one day see some “How To” books or a paint line with your name on it. If we weren’t on opposite sides of the continent I’d be tempted to collaborate on some models for the dio-display that’ll take 20 years to finish, lol. I don’t know how you threaded the winch cable on without breaking something and why the mirrors aren’t hanging cockeyed off the doors beats me. If you think about it give your headlight lenses a coat of clear yellow and you’ll be spot on with your build. :slightly_smiling_face:

That is honestly one of my biggest dreams, you have no idea what it would mean to me if sometime I get asked to do a article for a modeling magazine or something like that. I would be bouncing off the walls.

Gotta admit that would be a blast to help contribute to that awesome project!

Todays progress. I did something very small but I hope it adds to the look of the finished truck.

While I cant compare to the awesome work of great scratch builders like @Chris_Bryan and many others here I am proud of what I accomplished today.

My mental image of the truck is to have it looking like it just returned from a escort mission SO it would be weird to have the M60’s ammo can full of bullets like AFV club molds it. So I decided to scratch build a new ammo can mount and can for the M60.

I built the can mount out of sheet styrene and made the can itself mostly out of copper sheeting although the can’s bottom is sheet styrene as well. The latch piece is from a Tamiya .50 cal can that I carefully shaved off the piece and glued to my scratch built version. (Yah its not perfect but its good enough for me.)

Then I added some 1/35 7.62 belt I had left over to look like the gunner has fired off most of his ammo. I also replaced the sights and the front with parts from the Academy M60 as they are molded slightly better.

And finally here is a comparison of the kits ammo box and my scratch built one.

Now I will start detailing the inside of the cab with map’s, M79’s and shell casings.

Well you have done young Padawan. Persevere you must , hone skills you will with scratch build.
Seriously that is impressive. I really like what you did by using multiple materials and doing some problem solving.
I will be keeping my eye on you.

I would start small and build your “brand” aka you. Start with reviews for group like IPMS USA or here. As your writing and photo skills improve, publications will notice and it will build out your personal portfolio to show case your work for submission. The other way is to know folks launching a new magazine as they are looking for submissions. That is how I was lucky to get a few articles published. Unfortunately the magazine didn’t last long but I was happy to get published and paid.

Ezra, are you an AMPS member? If not, join. The AMPS magazine, Boresight, accepts and prints all articles submitted to it from members. You can get your articles published in a worldwide magazine read by the world’s top modelers. Modelers who publish in other magazines and know people. Who knows where you can go from there.

Thats awesome! Will do Matt.

I plan to start adding the decals for the gauges tonight. I also just bought this for the finished build.

I also may get a display case.

Painted up the M60 today.
I painted it all black then coated everything but the rubber parts with graphite power. The ammo can and holder were painted with various shades of OD and the ammo belt with Vallejo Brass.

I think it will look good enough on the truck.

The stock Academy M79 just wasnt working for me so tonight I decided it needed some improvement.

I started by chopping the barrel off so I could pose it with the breech open. Then having separated them I drilled out both ends of the barrel. (Yes I know it will be 99.9% invisible when placed in the cab but still!)

You can see I replaced the Penny with a Dime so you can see truly how small it is.

I also decided the stock needed some wood grain so I scraped it with the back end of my x-acto blade. Hopefully it will catch the paint nicely! Sadly the effect barley shows on camera.

Painting next. Then maybe a comparison shot with the M60!

Thanks guys!
Painted up the M79 this morning. The barrel and all metal parts were painted black while the wooden area were treated with buff. Once that was dry I applied multiple coats of Vallejo brown wash over the buff to get a wood grain effect. The metal parts were then treated with graphite powder.

Looks petty good me thinks.
