We had a lot of students at NMU from your way. Lots of good old fashioned gals with Finnish last names. The winter I was there Lake Superior froze over. It doesn’t often do that. Classes were cancelled - the temperature got down to -18, but the wind chill factor made it deadly just walking a few hundred meters to class.

I grew up in Casper Wyoming. I know from wind chill. When I was a teenager I delivered newspapers, and I had a hand warmer in the winter. Once, the wind and the temperature was so low, it would’ve been like -120 but the chart didn’t go that low. I didn’t deliver that day.

Holy cow, man! - That’s cold! The coldest day at NMU in February would have had a wind chill of -72.3 - at 150 mph hour winds.
I use a site that calculates it, as the “protagonist” in my novel rides his motorcycle through the DDR on 7 January, 1985. It was -19-6 F that day.
At 50 mph (the road was icy) the wind chill was -58.11. Two Air Force girls who I talked to at Checkpoint Alpha agreed to keep an eye on me. About halfway across, I stopped and got in their car to warm up. Almost immediately a VOPO pulled up and told me to get back on my bike and keep going. By the time I got to Checkpoint Bravo I was a tad cold. I laid on my back in the rest room and kept hitting the hand dryer with my feet to try and warm them up. You know I was desperate if I decided to lay on a rest room floor.
Fortunately one of the Air Force gals was able to help thaw me out later that night.

Found the first photo on DVIDS and it says it is an M2A3. Isn’t it an M3A3? The rear troop hatch is the same as on the Meng M3A3 kit which is different from the one on the M2A3. It shows the mounts for the lower section of ERA on the side skirts similar to the one ones on the M2A3. The second photo shows the M3A3 on the right and an M2A3 on the left with the same side skirts and ERA. Is it safe to say that I can mount the full array of ERA on the Meng M3A3 similar to the way they are on the Meng M2A3 as shown in the last photo?

It’s an A3. They don’t always get their captions right. But then, neither have some folks on this site, so no biggie.

Thanks! I plan to backdate the Meng M2A3 as shown in the first photo below so was going to switch the BUSK ERA parts to the Meng M3A3 but so far I haven’t found any M3A3’s with the lower ERA mounted but have seen them with the mounting brackets.
Any mounting bracket sets available as shown below? If not I will just fit the ERA. The reason for adding the lower ERA is because Meng didn’t include the footman loops in their M2A3 kit as they have you add the lower ERA. I will be using the footman loops from the M3A3 on the M2A3.

When building this M3A2 ODS version shown below, should the periscopes on the sides of the hull be removed as shown in the Meng M3A3 instructions? The M3A2 and M3A3 never had those periscopes?

It apears you and I are building the same vehicle. My feeling is that it is part of the shot trap armor that was added later, in addition to the roof armor. I did not add it myself.
Were you able to remove the roof armor?

I am actually using the Tamiya M2A2 ODS kit and converting it to the M3A2 ODS but using the Meng kit as a reference for the M3 specifics. I have the 3D printed parts from JacquesD to upgrade the Tamiya kit and I also have the Meng shot trap parts and the M3 specific hatch cover that I got from Meng a couple years ago. I don’t have the MCD parts yet but hoping to soon.

Another question regarding the M3A2 with the MCD. Would the Tamiya part F18 for the exhaust be used for that specific version?

Looking at my walkaround - it does not appear on this ODS Linebacker from the same timeframe. I doubt the appearance of the MCD made a difference one way or the other.

Started work on the Tamiya M2A2 ODS conversion to M3A2. I cut off the periscopes off the upper hull that were molded on and also filled in the areas on the rear where the other periscopes were to be added. I also filled in the areas for the hatch cover.
The M3 specific hatch cover I got from Meng a couple years ago. It is only dry fitted for now.
I also filled in the holes on the armor plate that went around the side hull periscopes.
The front of the side skirts were missing the ends because Tamiya cut them out for the flotation system so I added them on with sheet plastic.
This is as far as I got for now.
