1/35 Takom SADF G6 Rhino

One thing that may save time and aggravation (I do this with 1:1 steel as well) is to make the piece with all of the cuts and bends out of paper first. If you make a mistake - no big deal. When you have it perfect, trace it onto the brass, or stick it on with spray mount adhesive, and cut the brass with scissors. Easy peasey!

Well, I think that is done, just the side view mirror arms are the only missing items.

Yup, the G6 front end is done!

Now, just gotta button up the last odds & sods.

I’m planning on doing a base similar to the “Klein boet - Ou boet” build. I have a very topical back drop photo, just gotta buy the base which will be the same size, this G6 is huge.

Till the next update.

I still ‘protect’ the rims when fitting rubber tyres.

Use Alu duct tape, or similar thin tape. Paint rims.
Dip or paint tyres with acrylic varnish/Future/Kleer, then fit & paint.
NEVER use Enamel or lacquer on the rubber tyres, only acrylic.

Finally grasped the nettle and sorted out the commander’s position. Was very weary about modding the arms.

Now I have sort out the bone done. The SADF version is more rounded with out the flared ear molds for the cans.

Enjoy the festive season, best wishes to all and I’ll see you in the new year.

I changed out the helmet for an American style dome, this is closer to the type used by SADF tankers, which resembles a load masters head gear.

Till next time.

Hi all, started working on the base display for my G6 build.
Found a photo of it under cammo, on the border in 1987 on Ops Modular. The supporting blurb had photo’s of the G6 on trials “proewe” at the artillery range Riemvasmaak, earlier that same year.

Thanks for following this build.

Till the next update.

Awesome build Id love to redo mine the rims are melting where they contact the tires

You need to prime and paint the rims before adding vinyl tyres to prevent this reaction. A lot of guys have found this out too late.

Panzerart does a resin replacement set, not exactly cheap…

Typical of old Dragon rubber tires. I didn’t have this issue with the G6.
However I now use the “paint the rims” trick.
