@Joe_Walsh thanks Joe… Very enjoyable read so far: I’m about half way through the first book… Always felt this series deserving of more mainstream attention. Would really lend itself well to a television series…
@RedDuster thanks Si… Think I’m finally getting somewhere with the hull… Protective clear gloss coat tonight, then a dull coat tomorrow and hopefully flip her over for the last time to start building up the superstructure ![]()
Work is slowly crawling along on Punjabi… It seems there’s so many minor details to correct…
Words in pictures…
A few other corrections and I’ll start laying down some paint… ![]()
Looks good Russ, I can still see a noticeable step up to the gratings.
Cheers, Si
Some reference pics from Haida that I hope help. I found the funnel stays to be quite interesting because I am a nerd like that ![]()
Wow, a lot of fiddly work, Russell! Amazing how you made a new deck for the bridge. Well done! ![]()
@McRunty Amazing photos, thank you Rory!
These will come in handy for sure…
@BlackWidow Thank you Torsten… the joys of the salty side… never ending details ![]()
Great photos Rory, You aren’t the only nerd around here mate, photos of that sort of detail are very interesting.
Cheers,
Si
It’s been a while…
This is really part one of a two part update… but I figure that since it’s been so long since the last update and there’s quite a few photos, it’s worth the effort…
Part 1 is all about the prep and painting of the main deck houses and about 70 or so deck fittings, ammo boxes etc… Part 2 will be focused on them being assembled to the vessel itself…
But first, a small correction to the foc’s’cle deck to remove the awful molded on Capstan and checker plate… what was Trumpeter thinking….
Next up the main armament.. I decided to upgrade the kit 4.7” rather than a 3d printed replaced as, a) I already had master model brass barrels in hand, and b) cost… This build has already put big holes in the budget…
And ready for paint…
For the 4” I had the now defunct Northstar kits on hand…
The painted up foc’s’cle deck…
Deck houses…
Here you can see why there’s such a delay between updates..
Phew-that’s a lot of photos…. Part 2 of this update will come soon enough as all these parts get shipped aboard…
Thanks for looking…
Great to see some progress Russ,
Looking forward to part 2
Cheers
Si
Beautiful work. Just beautiful!

Wow! ![]()
Just what the others said. Great progress with more fiddly work, Russell! I know, why I build in 1/48 … ![]()
Don’t forget the inverse rule of scale Torsten: the larger the scale, the more detail is required; the smaller the scale less detail is required ![]()
Looking good!
Part 2… not so many photos as part 1…
When compared to the admiralty drawings, it seems Trumpeter only considered one half of the ship-the port side, then mirrored their CAD model for the starboard side… The admiralty drawings show that the ships definitely weren’t symmetrical in terms of locker positioning…
There are more items that are painted that I could add (the armament for example), but I think it might be best until the next lot of items are painted before I do, as I need to lay the ship on her side to get access to some things-eg inclined ladders to the bridge…
More soon-thanks for looking ![]()
Hi Russ,
Good to see more progress, and some detail going on. I do like your comment about the asymmetry of the layout of the lockers, I will admit that was something I had missed. looked at some of the photos of HMS Eskimo in 1940 they do show under the searchlight platform it us clearly plated in, with a port hole in the fwd end.
Cheers,
Si
Sharp, neat work Russ! She’s coming along nicely.
Great work mate,
perfectly clean and sharp! She’s really looking splendid so for, and a lot of probably typical “Trumpi-errors” you are spotting and fixing.
Coming along really nice!
Cheers

Shes looking amazing. All that AM and extra work on your part is really coming to the fore ![]()
Thankyou so much for all your kind words, guys ![]()
Definitely helps to keep the motivation levels up, especially on a kit such as this: I suspect Trumpy had the C team working on this one, not the B… Should someone such as Finemolds release their own Tribal class kit they could easily improve on the Trumpy standard ![]()
