oh wow! Nearly 3 months since my last update… Well, I thought I’d better bring you up to speed on what’s been going on and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year!

Mostly in the last few weeks I’ve been trying to get some sort of decent AM PE ladders which would allow me to then move on to fixing the armament and so on afterwards, but first I thought I’d tackle the 4 barrel pom pom.

This is the instruction sheet from WEM… All on one page…

and the set includes some resin and a bit of PE…

And I also had the option of Northstar’s offering…

4 pages of instructions

and some of the tiniest resin, brass barrels and photo etch you never did see… :man_facepalming:

So it was on the WEM 4 bbl pom pom… (keep in mind folks, I sourced most of the AM for Punjabi back before 3d printing really took off-surprisingly it’s still hard to get a 4 bbl pom pom in 3d print so I’ve suggested this to Micro Master and hopefully it’ll appear in their catalogue soon…)

After the rear bridge platform, I turned to the 0.5 Vickers MG’s… Again a Northstar set…

And now onto those ladders I mentioned…

They supply several different width ladders, which I don’t think any other company has considered before, so well done Infini…

and a comparison of 3 differing brands of ladders… I think the Infini looks great…

I’ve also been busy mounting Punjabi’s armament and other fixings, but photos will need to wait for another update…

In the mean time, I hope the guy in the red suit is kind to you and maybe something model related makes its way under the tree…

:santa_claus: :christmas_tree:

Maybe you have already seen this photo of the HMCS Huron but maybe it can be of interest to someone else.

Hi @Uncle-Heavy Robin

are you referring to the blanked off ends of the bridge wings? If so, don’t worry, they are on my to-do list and will be added in the next round of painting/building along with the 4.7” ready use lockers and the ships boats, both of which I need to source from Micro Master along with the 0.5” MG’s…

Anyways I found a bit of time to take some more photos of Punjabi showing her current fit…

so that’s it for this side of Christmas… the dockyard is closing down for a few days before returning to work to complete the funnels and the 0.5” MG platform…

Thanks for looking

Yes, I focused on the words “I believe” on this photo:

The Huron had that passage blanked off in the photo I linked to.
The evidence value of a photo of the Huron can be debated since
ships in a class were not always identical and a single ship could
be modified many times during its lifetime.
Blanking off that passage would make sense if there is another
passage for the crew of B gun to access the gun.
Ladder from the foc’sle deck?

I think it was more common than not that it was blanked off: there are quite a few accounts of how if left open, it created a wind tunnel through which the weather was very unpleasant….

And since there’s no actual evidence to the contrary, why not add it :slightly_smiling_face:

Totally agree!
Protection from the weather increases the crews combat abilities.
The Royal Navy preferred open bridges long after the other navies had enclosed theirs. The commander needed to have an unobstructed view to get a better situational awareness, being wet, cold and miserable on an open bridge in December on the North Atlantic …
I read The Cruel Sea by Nicholas Montsarrat when I was 15, the open bridge predilection was mentioned in one of the first chapters.

Hi Russ,

Some serious progress made there, looking really good. The Redduster shipyard has also shut down till the new year.

Wishing you and yours and all the shipmates on here a good Christmas and new year.

Cheers :clinking_beer_mugs: Si

Thanks guys… for a while there I thought I was languishing in the doldrums with a forest of parts on sticks but suddenly it seems that the finish line on Punjabi isn’t that far off

Damn, she’s gorgeous. Coming along amazingly!!

I feel you there. I have had that for a good chunk of this year. My output has been way down. Luckily, they kits aren’t going anywhere

Thankyou, Rory :slightly_smiling_face:

I know the feeling: time hasn’t been one of those things I’ve had a lot of this year… I’ve kept to my mantra of not buying new kits, unless I’m ready to build. There’s plenty in the stash already :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Of course, all bets are off should an Illustrious carrier materialise in 1/350 :joy::joy::joy:

Oh! I wasn’t that resistant this year. Got about 10 or 12, which is far more than I can build in a year. And I still have some on my wish list … :face_with_peeking_eye: :innocent:

@BlackWidow Oh, there’s sure been plenty of temptation: so many good releases of 1/72 wing things from Eduard, SH, Arma and so on… thankfully plenty in the Squadron Stash… and even more thankfully Dragon hasn’t fulfilled it’s promise to release a Nelson in 1/350… and Trumpy and co hint at many things but take years to deliver :joy:

I somehow ended up with a bunch. Oddly enough most of them were wingy things

Happy New Year everyone!

Hopefully you survived the festive season and the man in the red suit was good to you…

The dockyard didn’t really shut down for long this year and work on Punjabi has progress allowing the funnels to be shipped aboard…

First the pipes…

then the cages…

It’ll be on to the MG platform next… (and filling more holes on the deck  )

Thanks for looking
