Things have progressed nicely. Decals are on. One of the few things I have liked about this kit was how robust the decals were. No issues with breaking etc.
The Dragon looks amazing!
Unfortunately I didn’t move the anchor back far enough so did the best I would. I can live with it.
Love this PE name plate
My AM weapons came in so I will get started soon. I know they are the wrong Phalanx (Should have the FLIR attached) but its a pack of 4 and I will use the other 2 on another project that does require this version.
Almost done if I am honest. Just the weapons, railings and helicopter to build paint and install. I can see her being complete by the end of the weekend.

Launch day is here. After sitting on the shelf for over 3 years, the last 14 days has seen me complete my HMS Dragon to what I would call an “Acceptable” level.
Yesterday was spent working on the weapons and the helicopter. I wanted to use the Lynx but it was basically a blob of plastic so I opted for the Merlin and I have to say it came out looking great!
Here she is, ready for the display case.
With Krystal Clear in the windows.
Airfix makes great model airplanes but definitely not great ships which is a bummer since I would love to build up their HMS Illustrious but I have been reading its fit isn’t any better than this kit.
All in all, despite its terrible fit, once I got stuck in I actually enjoyed building and finishing this kit. According to my records she is the 29th model ship I have built since I restarted building models in 2017.
Now back to HMS Prince of Wales plus I also need to keep grinding away at the airwing for my USS Enterprise.

Hi Rory,
Congrats on commissioning, It is a pity they tried to be clever with the design of the kit. My opinion, having started an Illustrious, again appears to be the design that was the issue, two long floppy hull halves, and very little in the way of possitve location for the hanger.
Mine ended up in the bin, and I have never been tempted to have another go.
These to kits came out prior to Hornby aquireing ownership of Airfix
Cheers, Sirs
Congratulations on another fine commissioning Rory…
As you said, the kit is not an easy one, but when finished it is quite satisfying build overall!
29 builds since restarting the hobby is a phenomenal effort! Surpasses my efforts by a country mile
Looking forward to seeing the Prince back on the move
To be fair, 8 of those are submarines which are a lot quicker and easier to build
